What do you think of Marie?

Hmm, quite nice actually. I also like maria

BackforGood · 06/08/2020 23:45

I quite like it too.
Doesn't 'date' to any particular time, for me.
Easy to spell and easy to say if seen written down.
nice.

bridgetreilly · 07/08/2020 00:31

I wouldn't say it's all that easy to say, in that there are several different commonly used pronunciations:

Mah-REE
Marry
MAH-rie.

It's not my favourite, tbh, and I'm not sure it's quite old enough to have come round again.

ButterflyRuns · 07/08/2020 00:33

I like it, I never really thought of it as dated nor a thing of the past though.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2020 01:32

It's not for me, very 70s.

I like Maria though, it feels more classic.

I also really like Mary.

Ihatethinkingofcoolusernames · 07/08/2020 07:33

That's interesting @DramaAlpaca I find Marie more refreshing sounding and something that is more likely to fit in with the current name trends than Maria, but I think both are beautiful!

I have an Aunt called Marie.....born in the 40's so it doesn't say the 70's to me. I like it..I don't know any other Marie's. though a knew a couple of Maria's at school.

daisypond · 07/08/2020 07:41

Three different pronunciations is the problem. I only know two - one in her 80s, and another (French) in her 30s.
I prefer Mary.

Aria20 · 07/08/2020 08:40

Its ok but I prefer Maria. The only Marie I know was born in the 70s as a pp said!

CrocodileFondue · 07/08/2020 09:59

Not keen personally, Maria or Mary are much nicer.

CMMum88 · 07/08/2020 10:04

I actually really like Mary or Rosemarie.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/08/2020 11:03

I prefer Mairi but quite like Marie.

FreshfieldsGal · 07/08/2020 11:23

I love Mary, that's DM's and DD name. Classic and timeless, plus it's a 'strong' name.
I like Maria too. (my middle name!)

MikeUniformMike · 07/08/2020 11:50

Pretty but I prefer Mary.
Maria is lovely.

LarkDescending · 07/08/2020 12:27

It’s not for me, though I like both Mary and Maria.

VenusClapTrap · 07/08/2020 13:21

I love it. I agree with a pp that it sounds fresher than Maria or Mary.

micc · 07/08/2020 13:37

Love it, wanted my DD to be Maria.
Lovely and classic
