I know that Sophia is v popular in the national stats but it's less so near me.

We are thinking middle name of Florence.

Which do you prefer?

How are you pronouncing Maya?

May-uh or My-uh?

I prefer Sophia anyway as it’s a beautiful name. I’d worry about pronunciation with Maya.

LarkDescending · 01/08/2020 13:34

Sophia Florence is gorgeous.

I’m not keen on Maya.

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 13:36

Sophia is a classic name, Maya is a currently trendy name.

I prefer Sophie to Sophia, and I don't like Maya.

Pogmella · 01/08/2020 13:54

Maya works in almost every language in the world and was the mother of Buddha so not exactly a new trendy name so much as timeless and spanning epochs

Dazzedandconfused · 01/08/2020 13:56

I prefer Sophia as there's lots of pronunciation issues with Maya.

PlantPotting · 01/08/2020 14:04

Sophia is beautiful! I love it.

Also Florence is one of my favourite names.

PlantPotting · 01/08/2020 14:05

I think Maya and Mia could get mixed up
Depends if that bothers you

Spied · 01/08/2020 14:06

Sophia

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/08/2020 14:13

Sophia Florence

MooChops89 · 01/08/2020 14:22

I love both, Maya is DD's middle name (pronounced My-ah). Just had baby DS but he would have been Sophie or Sophia had he been a girl.

Ellmau · 01/08/2020 14:24

Sophia.

Councilworker · 01/08/2020 15:24

I love Maya it's a beautiful name. It's also a Hebrew name meaning spring (as in water). We consider it for DD but her surname already has the Ma sound so it was sounded a bit sing songy

LilacSloth · 01/08/2020 16:08

Sophia

Flymetothestars · 01/08/2020 16:47

Sophia is really beautiful
Looking at the statistics the numbers have been on decline the past few years so that's probably why I don't know any.
It's getting rarer

SomeWateryTart · 01/08/2020 18:06

Sophia Florence is lovely! There are no Sophias in dc's reception class and there were none at nursery either iirc. I don't think it's overused at the mo.

123Dancewithme · 01/08/2020 21:07

Sophia Florence

paperandfireworks · 01/08/2020 21:17

Sophia Florence

DramaAlpaca · 01/08/2020 22:14

Sophia is beautiful, and it's a much stronger sounding name than Maya.

Also, I associate Maya firstly with a central American civilisation rather than a girls' name.

pinklashes98 · 01/08/2020 22:16

Both are lovely choices, but I would go for Sophia! Sounds so beautiful and elegant Smile

hellosun20 · 02/08/2020 15:05

Thank you everyone! I prefer Sophia but DH likes Maya so will have to work on him!

Sophia by miles. I know it's popular now but it's timeless, I don't get that vibe from Maya

Flappingflamingo · 02/08/2020 18:14

I always worry about the pronunciation of maya, is it may-a, my-a, me-a 🤯
Sophia is beautiful

CharlieBoo · 02/08/2020 18:24

Much prefer Sophie to Sophia
