Is there actually anyone on MN's who likes the name Archie? It seems to be so badly hated...

Personally I think it is lovely and cannot see the problem - so many people saying it is a cutesy name however I know men of 30/40/50/60 called Archie and it works?

My friend adored the name Archie until she saw the dislike towards it

Monarch of the Glen, but that popularised Lexi, so nuff said.

Gets shortened to Arch, another word for sly.

I don't like it. I also think of Balamory.
Archibald is horrendous too and am sure many wouldn't use 'Archie' on a Birth Certificate.

Archer is even worse. It's fine as a surname, but not as a first name.

It also kind of blends in with similar names like Alfie and Albie. I think they will all sound quite dated in a few years.

Dislike - I can't see anything redeeming about it at all. Maybe that it is so popular that most people in the UK will be able to spell it easily? Definitely not my style though.

I detest the use of diminutive as 'full' names, almost as much as I detest hyphenated first names...

It’s fine. There’s just a lot of them about at the moment. I just imagine a little gang of Archies, Alfies, Ronnies and Reggies running around in tiny flat caps at primary school 😂

I love it! It is a lot nicer than Archibald as well. Just Archie on its own is lovely. I like Archer though. Think that's quite cool.

I think the problem is that it often gets lumped in with Alfie, which I don't like at all.

I love Albie as well, but actually would have Albert on the BC for that one.

It's OK, bit I am not keen on diminutives on birth certificates so the name would be Archibald which I like less.

There's your problem Archie is a diminutive of a clumsy old fashioned name, Archibald.

I'm not a fan of BC diminutives.

It's alright. Same as many of the names been given to babies over the last 5 years or so. I think they are old fashioned, but I am a generation older than people having babies today. When the babies being born today have dc, they will probably be named after my parents' generation and then their dc will be named after my generation etc etc.

I think it's an OK nickname but I don't like it as a full name.

But then it's short for Archibald which I can't imagine being used on a real person.

Or Archer I suppose, but I don't really love that as a name either.
