Morgan or Michael

Thinking of names for our first DS. Torn between Morgan or Michael, they are quite different I know. Just to give you a picture of our fam, our kids are half Chinese and half English, two girls already and my DH has a unisex name (similar vein to Morgan) and it suits him. Any thoughts or opinions? Or even just associations with either name, positive or negative...If we went for Morgan we'd go for Mog as NN as don't like the connotations or Morg (morgue) Thanks x

Love Michael. Would have used it for DS, except it is FiL's name. Interestingly, it is becoming very popular at the moment in the USA, if you look at the lists from there.

Similar to Michael: Robert, Christopher, Stephen, John
Similar to Morgan: Oscar, Jesse, Tobias, Leon

@Morgan12 @sel2223 @Esthermoo01 @lukasiak

"Morgan is seen as more of a girls name these days"

No it isn't - look at the official statistics! It's number 277 for boys and yet outside the top 600 for girls! The number of girls being given this name is pretty negligible!

I'd go for it OP

I'm not so keen on your other names. I like Ashley but find Taylor a bit downmarket (sorry). Rowan is too similar to v popular Roman (and Rohan and other top 100 names).

sel2223 · 23/07/2020 13:28

@Whatsyourflava not once did I say Morgan is seen as more of a girls name these days.
I said that all the Morgan's i know IRL are girls. No amount of official statistics changes that fact.

Whatsyourflava · 23/07/2020 13:46

@sel2223 my quote was from @lukasiak post, sorry that was unclear x

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2020 13:56

Michael.

Morgan the organ.

Esthermoo01 · 23/07/2020 14:05

When you say 'Morgan the organ' are you thinking of organ as in the instrument or as in an organ in your body (a specific bodily organ perhaps?) Just interested to hear what connotations it has for you x

Esthermoo01 · 23/07/2020 14:07

Yeah one of the reasons I like it is because it's not highly popular atm.

Also when I hear it in an American accent for some reason I associate it more with girls but in British accents feels more masculine

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2020 14:16

Was at school with one. I don't think that teenagers think that much about organists.

Shayisgreat · 23/07/2020 15:44

I like Michael.

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2020 15:54

@FizzyGreenWater, Oi you!

Pippilangstrumpfie · 23/07/2020 16:23

Morgue puts me off Morgan, the Organ not necessarily.

Oops. Sorry, did I say depressing, I meant scintillating, witty and incisive.

Mikes are indeed top notch Grin

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2020 16:36

Grin We are aren't we.

I really like the name Michael.

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 23/07/2020 16:40

Historically Morgan is a Welsh boys’ name. DS is known as Mogs for short.

Esthermoo01 · 23/07/2020 17:36

@Letsleepingdogslie8 ah Mogs is a nice nickname. Are you Welsh? We have no link to Wales whatsoever.

123Dancewithme · 23/07/2020 17:46

I like both, but prefer Michael.

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 23/07/2020 17:58

@Esthermoo01 Yes I am but DH is British-Chinese.

Tillygetsit · 23/07/2020 22:30

I like Morgan. Refreshing.
