Opinions on Laurie for a boy. I love the name but not a massive fan of Lawrence so it would have to be his name and not a nickname!

I love it.

Littlegreymen · 22/07/2020 17:48

I like it!

Ha! I have a Lawrence and he had a lorry for his peg at nursery. He hates Laurie and has to be called by Lawrence or his completely unrelated nickname.

daisypond · 22/07/2020 18:01

No, it’s far too twee. Call him Lawrence or Laurence. Give him the option.

rooarsome · 22/07/2020 18:04

I love it- one of my best friends is named this after the character from Little Women!

Whatsyourflava · 22/07/2020 18:07

Love it! Go for it - Laurie is lovely. I love Laurence too. You might find it really grows on you - it has me!

I really like it.

I love Laurie, named ds Laurence and told people call him Laurie. he hated it. had various things with Laurie on got thrown out ie all the presents that were wooden words and hangings etc. He is now 30, and either Laurence, Loz mostly or Lozzipops. No one calls him Laurie (sad)

DramaAlpaca · 22/07/2020 23:05

I like it. I would put Laurence on the BC though.

FourPlasticRings · 22/07/2020 23:06

I know one that's just been born. Nice name.

Mollymalone123 · 22/07/2020 23:09

One of my first boyfriends was called Laurie- haven’t met any since either.Love the name

BlessYourCottonSocks · 22/07/2020 23:12

I've got a Laurie. It's a family name and I love it.

123Dancewithme · 22/07/2020 23:18

Love it!

Grufallosfriends · 22/07/2020 23:19

Lawrence is nice for a boy.

Laurence is a girls name, the feminine form of Laurent. Like Florence and Florent.

Laurie is a cutesy nickname for a little girl (or boy)!imo.

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2020 14:08

Laurence is a boy's name in the UK.

Laurie sounds like Lorry. A No from me.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 23/07/2020 14:20

Absolutely love it - suggested it for DS but hubby vetoed.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 23/07/2020 14:49

Laurence is a boys' name in the UK, and has been for a very very long time - the second Archbishop of Canterbury was named Laurence, and he was born in the 6th century AD! My preference is for the spelling Lawrence but Laurence is perfectly fine unless the child will grow up somewhere Francophone.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 23/07/2020 14:55

Yep. My great uncle Laurence (Laurie) fought in WW1 - and we also have a Lawrence on my mother's side of the family from that era, so it's been fairly common.

My Uncle Laurie got called 'Lol' a lot if that helps.

Pippilangstrumpfie · 23/07/2020 16:26

Laurence is perfectly fine unless the child will grow up somewhere Francophone.

I think in many countries outside the UK people might regard Laurence as feminine.

Lawrence is the safer spelling imo.

Pippilangstrumpfie · 23/07/2020 16:26

But I really don't like Laurie.

FlashesOfRage · 23/07/2020 16:33

I always thought Laurie was an actual boys name not just a nick name for Lawrence 🤷‍♀️

I know two Laurie’s and neither is short for something else. One is my neighbour who is my age (35) and the other is my little brothers best friend from school (now 30)

I think it’s a great name ❤️

Pippilangstrumpfie · 23/07/2020 16:35

According to Wiki:

Laurie is a unisex given name. Among males, it can be a short form (hypocorism) of Lawrence. For females, it can be a short form of Lauren or Laura

FlashesOfRage · 23/07/2020 16:36

Oh tell a lie, I know three!

The third one is a lad I taught who will be 18-19 now

netflixismysidehustle · 23/07/2020 16:37

I know a teenage Laurie who switched to Lor in upper primary as he found his name mistaken for a female.
