Was thinking about Eden for our DD. Any thoughts or other suggestions??

I like, it never seems to be super popular on MN, not that that matters particularly. Its difficult to think of names in the same vein,

InkieNecro · 22/07/2020 14:10

It's a boys name? Nice but still a boy name that people have decided is trendy to give a girl.

You don't hear of boys being called Evelyn or Molly, so it seems odd that people give boys names to girls.

teaflake · 22/07/2020 14:13

I quite like it. A little different, but not too out there.
Lovely girl's name.

CatAnnoyance · 22/07/2020 14:14

I love it. It's a beautiful name.

legalseagull · 22/07/2020 14:16

Surely it's not a name set to one sex? It's not comparable to Evelyn, as that's after Eve, a female character. The Garden of Eden is a place - not a person with a sex?

I'm not particularly keen as it's a bit hippy for me, but it's not awful. I wouldn't like to be called Eden as an adult. I'd assume a child called Eden was from a very religious family

Evelyn was a boys name

It's a chain of bookmakers down here. Seems downmarket.

BillyAndTheSillies · 22/07/2020 14:33

I have a boy Eden, never had a bad opinion on it unlike DS1's name which is very marmite.

Saw it in an article and fell in love with it. But I've only ever seen it as a boys name. DH's Irish side of the family liked it as Aidan is a derivative.

He's only 10 months but he usually goes by Eddie as a nn given to him by his older brother.

MikeUniformMike · 22/07/2020 14:39

Given that we had a prime minister called Eden, you could call her Cameron or Blair, or even Heath.

Eden will be Ede. Don't like it.

Bubbletrouble43 · 22/07/2020 15:16

Erm... Evelyn waugh?

BellaVida · 22/07/2020 15:20

I like it and have heard for boys and girls. Alternatives I think are along similar lines:
Edith
Edie
Elysia/ Elyse
Eliora
Elara
Eva/ Evie/ Ava
Everly
Esther

Elouera · 22/07/2020 15:22

I've always loved it and assumed it was a girls name! A little different, without being really out there. Its on my list too.

AudacityOfHope · 22/07/2020 15:51

I don't like it, it's a bit like calling your child Paradise. I mean obviously you'll think they're perfection but Grin

Sally872 · 22/07/2020 15:53

Only Eden I know is a woman well into her 40s so I definitely don't think it is a boys name.

I like it, different but not unheard of.

Gatr · 22/07/2020 15:55

Really like it!

Similar names for me that arent similar sounding are nature style names eg. Bird names like Wren, robyn, Trees like hazel, willow, floral names a or more general like raine, April.

Rafflesway · 22/07/2020 15:58

Love it whether for a boy or girl!

RuthW · 22/07/2020 18:02

I've never heard if a boy Eden. It's nice for a girl.

saltycat · 22/07/2020 18:07

Ah no, it has to be Brandy! Search a similar thread for the Brandy v Eden name debate.

I like it.

CarrieMoonbeams · 22/07/2020 18:07

Love it. I don't have DC so I have to wait for more pets that I can give my favourite names to - I'm still waiting to get an Eden, Willow, Florence and Morgan!

Quizeerascal · 22/07/2020 19:10

It's a unisex name imo, named as others have said for the garden of Eden so not attached to a specific gender

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/07/2020 22:22

Only like it for a boy unfortunately.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 22/07/2020 23:06

My dd is eden.
Only ever had compliments on her name.

123Dancewithme · 22/07/2020 23:21

Not keen.

sanityisamyth · 22/07/2020 23:27

That's because OP started both ...

OhYeahYouSuck · 23/07/2020 00:07

I really like it for a girl. It sounds feminine to me and I've never heard of it for a boy.
