Can’t agree on baby names

My DH and I can’t seem to agree on a name for our second child. He wants a traditionally Aussie name and I want something more ‘proper sounding’ sand that goes with our DD’s name. He’s suggesting names such as Lachlan and Xavier when I prefer names such as Elijah, Timothy and Sullivan. Any suggestions on what I do do?

Could you go more down the surname as first name route?

I just don’t want his name to sound like a jumble or random words or that we couldn’t decide so we gave him all of them

I've seen the suggestion that you both list names that you like. Copy the list out twice and each give a score of 1-10. 10 being love and 1 being hate.
The name with the highest combined score gets it.
If you try it and see both disappointed then it's not right and you keep looking.

Good luck. We are really struggling with naming dc2.

I would put Sullivan in the surname name category. I think that the surname names sound modern but still like proper names as they are familiar. Here are some suggestions...

Hudson
Orson
Cooper
Jackson
Austin
Brodie
Benson
Cameron
Fletcher
Fraser

Surely Timothy is Aussie? I can't say it without adopting the accent Grin

Tbh you keep working through names until you are both happy, you shouldn’t have one parent hate a name

I really like Sullivan and Xavier- could you do first name and second name to incorporate each of your preferences.

Trying to come up with names that might fit both. What about:
Xander
Harrison
Zachary
Ethan
Logan
Jasper
Kieran
Austin
Isaac
Lucas
Jacob

He seems to think it sounds ‘french or something like that’. He’s the most difficult person I’ve ever met 😂

Noah, Henry, Ned, Sidney, Harrison, Felix and loads of the top names in Australia are popular here too.

I think of 'surfer' names as being Australian e.g. Beau, Bodhi, Cooper, Oakley, Arlo, Luca but lots of Scottish or Irish names are used by Aussies I know e.g. Angus, Hamish, Finley, Cameron.

Find a list of names on the internet and go by them one by one with your OH. And by the end you'll have a small list of names both of you like and agree upon!

That's what we do. If I don't like a name for any reason is off the shortlist, same for DH.

No help, but I do love Lachlan nn Locky! Don’t hear it often, but it’s lovely!
