Just found out our twins are boys ... what do people think of Abel and Arlo?

We also have a grown up Isabel and lucy, plus a toddler called Otis.

You hear Abel, you think Cain.

UsernameNotValid · 19/07/2020 19:29

Personally, I'm not keen on either name and really dislike them as a pair.

Annoyingly people tend to put twin names together as a set when discussing them so I'd use different initials too.

Totally get that this is my own personal hang up though so feel free to ignore of you like them!

newmum332 · 19/07/2020 19:31

I’m not keen on Abel, or the nn Abe which I think would be the natural nn. Makes me think of Ape.

I don’t mind Arlo, it’s not something I’d pick but it’s quite popular.

Mol1628 · 19/07/2020 19:32

I love the names but not for a twin pair. I wouldn’t choose ‘matching’ names if I had twins.

IHateCoronavirus · 19/07/2020 19:32

Well I think they are lovely and go well with your other names.

wendywoopywoo222 · 19/07/2020 19:34

I think they are a bit tongue twisty saying them together.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 19:35

No sorry.
Don't like Arlo at all. Abel is a bit to Cain and Abel.

I like Isabella and love Lucy but I don't like Otis at all, so I'm probably not much use. Maybe Ezra and Arlo might be a better combination - I'm trying to pick names you'll like.

I wouldn't give matchy matchy names to twins because they'll be called The Twins anyway and deserve to be seen as individuals.

Congratulations!

dingledongle · 19/07/2020 19:36

I thunk the names are lovely however personally I would not give my children the same initial. Smile

octoberfarm · 19/07/2020 19:36

Would Abram be an alternative to avoid the Cain association?

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 19:37

too not to

DanniArthur · 19/07/2020 19:39

Whilst both names individually are lovely I dislike very matchy names for twins to be honest.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 19:41

Having said that I know twins with matching names. Not the actual names but something like Nathan and Natasha and their siblings called them the Nats, which I found rather cute.

LilacSloth · 19/07/2020 20:12

I'm not fond of Abel. I think Arlo is great. Agree that matching initials and date of birth could be annoying for post/banking etc. in the future. How about:

Arlo and Caleb
Arlo and Liam
Arlo and Zach

20viona · 19/07/2020 20:13

Love them

RuthW · 19/07/2020 20:14

I love them but Abel rhymes with Isobel.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 20:16

Abel does not rhyme with Isobel.

AllHellBreaksLoose · 19/07/2020 20:18

@RuthW Abel is like Mable without the M

AllHellBreaksLoose · 19/07/2020 20:19
@RuthW Abel is like Mable without the M
*Mabel, excuse the typo x

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 20:20

If Isabel has the same surname you could use the same name tag - just snip off the Is.

Mabel isn't spelt Mable.

YonBonnieBanks · 19/07/2020 20:20

Nope

Isn't Arlo a type of milk? or similar sounding?

AdriannaP · 19/07/2020 20:20

Don’t like matchy names for twins and it’s a mouthful. No to Abel!!
Arlo is nice

LunaNorth · 19/07/2020 20:21

Lovely

RuthW · 19/07/2020 20:27

I know Abel is Mabel without the m, but still sounds the same as Isabel to me. Too close for siblings in my opinion.

user1493494961 · 19/07/2020 20:28

I've heard worse.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 20:30

They look similar but I hear one ending in a-bel and the other in abe-ul.
