Name suggestions needed!

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are having a disagreement on the name for our baby girl, due in about a month. We've decided on the middle name Juliet. For the first name, I thought we had agreed on Madeleine (probably known as Maddie). He had also suggested Emilia which I liked too, but then we veered towards Madeleine. In the last week, he has decided he wants Alex as the name, full name Alexandria. I am really not that keen on it, but I don't know if that's simply because I have been thinking of baby as Madeleine in my head for the last couple of months.

Can anyone suggest any other names that fall into the same sort of vintage-y category that can also be shortened? And that go ok with Juliet? I'm drawing a bit of a blank and secretly hoping that he changes his mind and goes back to Madeleine once she's here/let's me pick the name because I'm the one who has to go through labour 😂 Ohh, and the further complication is that I am a teacher so some names are ruled out because I have just taught them (Jessica and Charlotte being two that we liked but I have just had in my class and don't want them to think I've named my baby after them 😂)

I am a teacher so some names are ruled out because I have just taught them (Jessica and Charlotte being two that we liked but I have just had in my class and don't want them to think I've named my baby after them 😂)

I wouldn't worry about that too much. My primary school teacher named her first son name, and there was a name in the class, and it had never occurred to me that she had named her son after a pupil.

I prefer Jessica and Charlotte to a lot of the suggested names.

MojoJojo71 · 19/07/2020 11:59

I much prefer Juliet to all the other names you mentioned so I’d go with that for her first name

Juliet Alexandria is beautiful

Thanks all - a couple of the suggestions were on our long list, so might need to revisit that! Keep them coming please! Smile

@MikeUniformMike yes my husband says I'm over thinking the names in class thing, so we might reconsider a couple of names that I originally struck off the list!

@MojoJojo71 yes I'd been thinking about 'promoting' Juliet to the first name as I do really like it. Only thing is that I like having the middle initial as J, as there is a bit of a family tradition in nicknames - my husband is Peter Joseph, known as PJ, his sister is known as RJ and I think that's quite cute so would like a J as the middle initial if we can.

I wouldn’t care about children in your class having the same name. How on earth would they even know? And next year you’ll no doubt have different children in your class. I like Madeleine a lot. It’s my preferred name out of your possibles. Maddie is horrid, though, so I wouldn’t pick it if you were going to use that.

I much prefer Alexandra to Alexandria.
Why complicate such a gorgeous name.

I do love the name Madeleine though, and think it is much nicer than Alexandria.

@LilacSloth thank you - if only I could convince my husband of this! 😂
