DP grandad recently passed away. He brought DP up from a young age. We are due dd later in the year and want to name her after him.
What's everybody's opinions on Francesca, but known as Frankie?
Middle name would Ivy. Thanks

I like it, and it is a lovely way for your DP to remember his childhood.

As you say, there is plenty of scope to abbreviate it (Fran/Frank/Frankie/Ches). I think it works well with 'Ivy'.

I knew a few people with that name who are now in their 50's and 20's.

Haggisfish · 18/07/2020 08:58

Like it.

madcatladyforever · 18/07/2020 08:58

I think that is a lovely name and nickname, really nice. And as previous poster said a lovely way to remember a family member.

orangejuicer · 18/07/2020 08:59

I like it, she might go for Fran though.

RJnomore1 · 18/07/2020 08:59

I know one, she’s lovely. I like the name and your reason for using it.

dancemom · 18/07/2020 09:00

Lovely name lovely nickname

I know a Francesca but she goes by Chesca

Also know a Francisca and she goes by Fran

daisypond · 18/07/2020 09:02

I like Francesca, and also Frances. I loathe Frankie, though.

MrsMozartMkII · 18/07/2020 09:04

Love Francesca. It's a beautiful name.

You could start with Frankie. There's every chance she'll chose her own shortening though.

supersonicginandtonic · 18/07/2020 09:34

Thank you for all the replies. I have no problem with her deciding what she wants to be known as when she's older. DPs eldest is Rosalie and was always known as rosie, when she started secondary school she chose to be known as Rose.

SidesteppinTheRona · 18/07/2020 10:07

I think it's great!
Francesca is a lovely name, and Frankie a cool and friendly sounding nickname 👌

PipaJJ · 18/07/2020 10:11

Lovely

AdaColeman · 18/07/2020 10:17

Francesca is beautiful, and it’s so nice to have a family connection with a name. (I’m not too keen on Ivy though.)

123Dancewithme · 18/07/2020 10:22

It’s ok, I prefer Frances though.

Megan2018 · 18/07/2020 10:23

Francesca Ivy is really lovely

CatteStreet · 18/07/2020 10:24

MummaGiles · 18/07/2020 10:32

MummaGiles · 18/07/2020 10:32

had he*

Unfollowtherules · 18/07/2020 10:34

Really like Francesca. Not keen on Ivy.

janetmendoza · 18/07/2020 10:36

Really like the combination- will you be pronouncing it Fran cheska or Fran seska? Thats my only confusion as I know one of each.

Flappingflamingo · 18/07/2020 10:37

I love both names and they sound lovely together

Houseplantmad · 18/07/2020 10:42

Love it. I work with a Frankie and she's fab!

supersonicginandtonic · 18/07/2020 11:16

@janetmendoza Fran cheska. Never heard it pronounced the other way.

Ivy is a family name but I'm not too concerned about the middle name as they never get used.
