Down to 2 girls names

Hi,

We have been struggling with girls names. I think we are currently down to a final two:

Jasmine

Wren

Although still don't feel 'set' on either of these. Which do you prefer? Or other suggestions?

I also like (but OH doesn't): Imogen, Matilda
He likes (but I don't): Harmony, Annabelle
Would probably rather avoid ie/y names as our son already has a name ending like this.

I love Wren. I like that I can see it for a grown up as well as a child. I find Jasmine too flowery for my tastes.

Sourcat · 17/07/2020 10:21

Wren, definitely

Other ideas:

Ray (as in Eames)
Beatrice / Bea
Aubrey
Margot

WhatTheD1ckens · 17/07/2020 10:22

Jasmine all the way! Not sure Wren will date very well.

starfish18 · 17/07/2020 10:24

Love wren x

whichteaareyou · 17/07/2020 10:31

Wren! What about Quinn?

Pemba · 17/07/2020 10:35

Jasmine is much prettier. I really don't get the current love for Wren as a name for girls. It's a type of bird! And the word itself doesn't have lovely mellifluous sound or anything - just 'ren'. Meh, boring. Can anyone explain the love? To me, it's weird.

If you're not sure about Jasmine, have you considered Jessamine or Jessamyn? It's the older version of Jasmine and IMO prettier and more unusual. A character in the TV series 'Girls' has this name. It also gives you the options of the nicknames 'Jess', 'Jessa' or 'Jessie', all a bit nicer than 'Jazz' IMO.

PlantPotting · 17/07/2020 10:35

I love Wren. It's really not "out there" these days. I love that it's not all frilly like so many names these days. How about Greta or Cora or Martha ?

I love Jasmine too though

What is your sons name?

PlantPotting · 17/07/2020 10:36

If you like Jasmine what about Jessica? Ivy or Iris? Imogen?

Silvergreen · 17/07/2020 10:41

I really like Wren. It works at any age as well.

Pemba · 17/07/2020 10:45

Imogen is also really nice, and Annabel too (though without the unnecessary frilly 'belle' ending). I am hesitant to suggest it but have you considered Isabel /Isobel /Isabella? A similar sound to Annabel but even nicer. But maybe just too popular?... Or how about Maribel? Rosabel? There are loads of nice Rose names too, Rosanna, Rosamund, Rosalie etc.

Spied · 17/07/2020 10:48

Like both. Slightly prefer Jasmine.
I'd go with Jasmine Wren.

NameChange30 · 17/07/2020 10:50

Jasmine. It's lovely, and I like Jazz as a nickname.

Not a fan of Wren. It doesn't sound quite right as a name, and also sounds a bit masculine to my ear.

I also like Imogen but I know your DH doesn't!

Annabelle is too frilly for my taste, I'd spell it Annabel. Or just call her Anna Wink

MonsteraDeliciosa · 17/07/2020 12:51

I love both, but prefer Jasmine.

I know a young Jasmine and the Disney connection never occurred to me.
And Jazz/ Jazzy are such cool diminutives.

Rainbowqueeen · 17/07/2020 12:56

I prefer Jasmine
Other options

Willow
Cassia
Amber

Happenchance · 17/07/2020 13:37

I prefer Wren to Jasmine.

How about:
Rowan
Miren or Seren (Both can be shortened to Wren)
Winter
Rhona (I like this name despite the 'rona virus connection!)
Hester
Bethan
Elise
Clara
Robyn?

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2020 13:42

Jasmine. Wren is nice as a name for a cute little bird but not a girl.

user1493494961 · 17/07/2020 13:48

Jasmine is OK, I've never understood the love for Wren, to me it's a nondescript name, to match the bird. Imogen and Matilda are lovely, Annabelle is nice, but Harmony's a bit of an odd choice.

iwontfloaatt · 17/07/2020 14:12

Jasmine is beautiful. I don't like Wren at all.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 17/07/2020 14:22

Imogen and Matilda are lovely. Less keen on Wren and Jasmine. Serena or Miranda?

GetTheSprinkles · 17/07/2020 14:29

Both so lovely.
I see Jasmine as a girly girl name and Wren as more modern and 'cool'.
Jasmine offered more options e.g. Jazz, Minnie

123Dancewithme · 17/07/2020 14:42

Jasmine is lovely

CakeRattleandRoll · 17/07/2020 15:51

Love Jasmine.

Other suggestions:
Yasmin
Juniper
Sylvia/Sylvie
Miranda

FlaskMaster · 17/07/2020 15:54

Jasmine is lovely. Wren is just horrible sounding and is (or used to be) a female naval officer didn't it, so more like a title/rank, or obviously a bird, than a name. Unless you've already got a kid called Stumpy I'd steer well clear of that tbh.

Alarae · 17/07/2020 16:02

I like Jasmine.

Do not like Wren at all as just doesn't sound like a name to me. I just imagine a wormy dragon from a fantasy novel.

Peachbubble · 17/07/2020 17:37

Jasmine
