Is Anya a good choice?

Hi, everyone. I'm new here. Just joined after using some other forums and being told that the forum here is way more honest. I'm expecting a baby girl and my favourite name is Anya, however I heard a comment from someone on the name and now I can't unhear it. What do you think of Anya Hunt? Would you add a second name to it? (Hyphenated or not) If so, what would you suggest? If not, does it stand on it's own? Do you just not like it? I really want to make a good choice. Thank you.

Great name. Excellent choice.

Who's Anya hunt? Not heard of her

What other forums were you on out of interest?

BikeRunSki · 16/07/2020 19:35

I really like Anya, and it works fine with Hunt. It is slightly more exotic than Anna (which is beautiful) in English and works well in many languages, whilst being well known enough that people know how to spell and pronounce it.

Bookaholic73 · 16/07/2020 19:36

I love it, but then I was a huge Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan back in the day.

SummerHouse · 16/07/2020 19:36

I love it. If I was having a baby girl you would have just put it on my radar. But it's just a word so you shouldn't care what a load of people on the internet think.

zigaziga · 16/07/2020 19:40

I love the name Anya.

I would absolutely NOT add a hyphenated name.

Theforest · 16/07/2020 19:42

I knew a woman who spelt it Anja. I think it was the german spelling. I always liked the name.

SilverOtter · 16/07/2020 19:48

Anya is a beautiful name.

Pixilicious · 16/07/2020 19:51

Love it. It was on my list but DH vetoed it

userabcname · 16/07/2020 19:58

I love it too. Massively underrated name.

CorianderLord · 16/07/2020 20:07

Love it

Happenchance · 16/07/2020 20:14

I don't like it I'm afraid. She will have to put up with comedy geniuses asking Can ya hunt?

HD98 · 16/07/2020 20:14

It's beautiful, always liked it. Not too common either. I'm assuming Hunt is the surname? It goes fine.

I don't think it should be hyphenated, perfect as it is.

You're never going to find a name that Everybody loves so don't worry too much about the odd negative comment.

HD98 · 16/07/2020 20:15

@Happenchance you can make a joke of practically any name if you tried hard enough. I highly doubt Anya is going to be prone to teasing.

dejhunt · 16/07/2020 20:26

Thank you! Anya Hunt would be the name+surname combination. And I meant nameberry and babycentre where I got the comments I can't stop thinking of.

Exactly. It wasnt the "Can ya Hunt?" Thing I heard, but instead "On a hunt/on your hunt" and now i cant unhear it. I still like it, but seriously afraid it might be a joke too often.

Beautiful! I really love the spelling Àine though

BessMarvin · 16/07/2020 20:34

I like it but never sure if to pronounce it Ann-ya or Arn-ya

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 16/07/2020 20:39

It's very nice. Don't worry about the hunt thing, my name rhymes with a widely used slur and i survived lol

ittooshallpass · 16/07/2020 20:46

It's only me who sees 'and your c**t' then?

I love the name but it most definitely doesn't go with hunt. Sorry.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 16/07/2020 20:46

Gorgeous name and classy.

OhRosalind · 16/07/2020 20:49

One of my favourites. Please don’t ruin it by hyphenating it!

dejhunt · 16/07/2020 20:50

Arn-ya!

Oh gosh that's even worse than what I heard before. Thank you.
