Thoughts on Franklin?

This was a name DW suggested the other day, I quite like it, sounds like a strong, refined name. What do people here think about it? The middle name will be Charles, surname Jackson. Thanks Smile

Not for me. Franklin doesn’t say refined to me at all. It’s too surnamey/American style. Agree it sounds quite strong, though.

VenusClapTrap · 15/07/2020 23:22

It’s ok. But I much prefer Francis.

Brot64 · 15/07/2020 23:48

Said together the names sound good. However Franklin is too American for me. I cannot think of Franklin without thinking of Benjamin.

William1988 · 15/07/2020 23:53

@Brot64 Franklin Roosevelt springs to mind for me first, didn’t think about the Benjamin Franklin association tbf.

@VenusClapTrap I think Franklin is strong sounding, whereas Francis is more drippy and wet sounding imo.

Franklin is wet and drippy. As is Francis. Anything with Frank is like Fronk in Father of the Bride GrinGrin

OnePenguinTooMany · 16/07/2020 00:35

I love it.

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2020 00:46

Well, it's not in the least bit refined Confused

Francis is altogether classier.

Both would get shortened to Frank, which isn't a nice name at all.

Onestepup · 16/07/2020 01:36

Francis is much nicer. Franklin is surnamey and many boys names ending with 'in' sound rather wet to me. Robin, Justin, Tarquin, Quentin, Crispin, Franklin.

ShinyFootball · 16/07/2020 01:38

D Roosevelt.

Is what I think

I know people called Francis, Franco, Fred. If you want an f name

blosstree · 16/07/2020 01:38

Don't like it at all. It doesn't sound in the least bit refined

William1988 · 16/07/2020 09:43

@LadyGAgain 🤦‍♂️

@Onestepup interesting. Although I’m a traditionalist at heart - there’s something about the ‘cis’ at the end of Francis that makes me think of it as a wet, not very solid name

I really like Franklin :). My Grandad was Frank. My oldest middle is Francesca after him.

CatsArePeople · 16/07/2020 10:18

like

123Dancewithme · 16/07/2020 14:41

Sounds very American.

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2020 14:44

Don't like it.
