What do people think about it? DW suggested it last night and it sounds good to me. His middle name will be Joseph, surname Jackson. Thanks Smile

Lovely name

Liv5417 · 15/07/2020 13:28

Love Alfred not keen on the shortened "Alfie"

Alfred Joseph Jackson is lovely 😊

emmathedilemma · 15/07/2020 13:37

i like it

BGirlBouillabaisse · 15/07/2020 13:40

I have an Alfred nn Freddie or Fred. Nobody calls him Alfred but it's nice that he has a longer version of his name. His brother is Bertie.

SallyWD · 15/07/2020 13:52

I love Alfred and I prefer Fred/Freddie as a nickname to Alfie. I just know to many many Alfies. Alfred Joseph is lovely.

Alexander1990 · 15/07/2020 18:18

@Liv5417 same. We won’t shorten it to begin with as I think Alfred is quite easy to say/non-fussy anyhow, but if people want to shorten it we will try to go with Fred.

@BGirlBouillabaisse Freddie and Bertie sound quite cool for brothers, good choice.

Alfred is a fine name. also Joseph.

leave the children to make their own shortenings/ nicknames if they wish.

BGirlBouillabaisse · 15/07/2020 18:29

Thanks @Alexander1990 they are very good mates Grinthey're 7 and 4 now so hopefully they'll continue to rock their names!

Good luck with your new arrival Thanks

daisypond · 15/07/2020 18:37

Yes, it’s fine. Definitely not Alfie, though. Fred etc is good.

BaronessBomburst · 15/07/2020 18:38

Love it. I wouldn't shorten it either.

Puppybum · 15/07/2020 18:40

I always think there's a very good reason these names fell out of fashion. I think it's an ugly sounding name and what teenage lad would want to be called Alf

devildeepbluesea · 15/07/2020 18:41

Lovely. NN Fred too, I think it's great.

Liv5417 · 15/07/2020 18:44

@Alexander1990 I looked after an Alfred a few years ago and he got "Alf" for short but never Alfie which was refreshing!

Scubalubs87 · 15/07/2020 18:47

My Alfred is a Fred/Freddie.

Alexander1990 · 15/07/2020 18:49

@Puppybum what makes the name ugly? I think it’s quite refined. Just goes to show how subjective names can be I guess.

@Liv5417 I like the nickname Alf too.

I imagine Alfred with a flat cap, whippet and working on his allotment. Not a name for now at all

BGirlBouillabaisse · 15/07/2020 20:14

@puppybum I guess you haven't heard of King Alfred the Great, Alfred Molina, Alfred Hitchcock, Al(fredo) Pacino or Alfred Lord Tennyson? None of whom wore a flat cap to my knowledge.

Whatsyourflava · 15/07/2020 20:18

Great name and love how it has many nickname options if your son chooses to go with a shortened version. Great choice!

123Dancewithme · 15/07/2020 21:00

Lovely

RuthW · 15/07/2020 21:57

Lovely. Love Alf and Fred.
