It's the only name we agree on but we are maybe trying to lengthen the list as I don't think dp loves it.
I love Cedric and Clarence but he says no way to both of those.
So we're seriously considering Raymond at the moment.
What do you think?
I don't know any little kids really, is it popular?
If I like Raymond, Cedric and Clarence and other ideas for names to throw at dp 😁

I love Raymond. It just seems to be a fine name for me. Only downside is Everybody Loves Raymond because he's such an obnoxious self centered man child.

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2020 16:43

I like it. How about Desmond, Norman, Cyril, Michael, Alan, ...

I like Raymond, but like Cedric even more!

I also like Clement, Dominic and Quentin

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 06/07/2020 17:34

We know a 6 year old Raymond. He's known as Ray. It suits him Smile

Maduixa · 06/07/2020 19:57

I like it. Honestly, I would never have thought of it a year or two ago, but came across it when looking for a name that works in English and French. It's also a name that works in a lot of European languages: Spanish Ramón, Hungarian and Polish (and lot of other Slavic languages) Rajmund, Gaelic/Irish Réamann > Redmond, Italian/Portuguese Raimondo, German Raimund. I also really like Ray.

Some possible others: August, Clement, Cyrus, Edmund, Edwin, Felix, Laurence/Lawrence, Martin, Matthias, Simon, Vincent.

I know a fifty something Raymond, knew him from his 20s onward, and the name fitted throughout.

lljkk · 06/07/2020 20:24

I badly wanted this for DC3 & MNers unaminously shuddered at the time (16 yrs ago) that it was hideous old man name. Which opinion DH shared. How times change...

Smashtastic · 06/07/2020 20:29

My wonderful grandad is Raymund.

I would be happy for his name to come back into fashion.

ncqtime · 06/07/2020 20:33

Love the name Ray so why not Raymond (even though it currently makes me think of stained tracky bottoms). One to get over and love. Neville?

Raymond and Clarence are two of my favourite names! Go for Clarence, it's nearly extinct.

What about Sidney nn Sid?
Barnaby?
Vincent nn Vinnie?
Tristan?
Percy?

DramaAlpaca · 06/07/2020 23:02

I only know one young Raymond, he's 19 and goes by Ray. I thought it was very unusual when I first met him, but it really suits him.

LaChatte · 06/07/2020 23:34

The only Raymond I know is in his 80s, so no doubt it'll be fashionable again soon. I'm in France, I know quite a few Tristans, Cyrils, Cedrics and Clements, all in their teens.
Other people I know in Raymond's generation are Jacques, Robert, François, Francis, Jean-Marie, Philippe, Adrien, Rémy, Roger, Michel, Guillaume, Nicolas, Sébastian, Jules, Victor, David, Léon, Léonard, René, Didier and André.

Poetryinaction · 06/07/2020 23:37

It's a brilliant name.

Raymond is going to make a comeback. Rae for a girl is getting more popular. And Raymond Reddington from the blacklist is amazing!

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/07/2020 11:55

Absolutely love it. My imaginary 3rd child would be Ray if a boy.

zingally · 10/07/2020 13:08

Ray was in our top names list for our DS for a long time. But we really liked just Ray, and hated Raymond. We dumped it in the end, because we thought everyone would just think his name was Raymond and Ray for short. And we didn't want a lifetime of explaining his name ISN'T Raymond!

Plus I taught a little Raymond once, and he was wet as anything.

helia · 10/07/2020 13:55

Raymond is Brooklyn 9-9 is a good character too.

Cindie943811A · 10/07/2020 15:51

Most Raymond’s and Rays I’ve come across professionally in my lifetime have been heaving drinkers and/or criminals or conmen.
Puts me right off.

emilybrontescorsett · 10/07/2020 17:32

Awful it's an old man/dad name.
It conjures up an image of an overweight, tattooed, heavy drinking chain smoker. Sorry.

NothingTraLaLa · 10/07/2020 17:39

I would constantly be asking him what he thought of the new gas cooker.

(I think you need to be of a certain age to understand that comment)
