Thoughts on Freddie?

Just looking to get people's thoughts on the name Freddie for a little boy.

I'm due with my first baby in a few weeks, dont know the gender but we are really struggling with a boys name. My husband and I both have a grandparent who was Frederick (although bizarrely, they were both known by their middle names day to day) so we think it would be a nice name to have. My husband was particularly close to his grandad too so it would be especially nice for him.

I have a 'thing' about naughty children names though and I just don't know if Freddie is one of them?

We're not sure at this stage whether it would be Freddie or Frederick and use Freddie as a nickname, nor have we discussed a middle name (its been so hard for a first name we might just forgo a middle name! 😄).

TIA!

I like Freddie, I would say it is a cheeky childs name but cheeky babies are cute! (I should know I have one napping right now).

If it was me I'd give him the full name on his birth cert, when hes older Frederick might look better on a cv than Freddie.

Beamur · 06/07/2020 13:43

I know a few Freddie's. It's cute, popular but not ridiculously so. Great name.

Guiltyfeminist1 · 06/07/2020 13:44

I love it but agree with PP that I'd put the longer version on his BC so he can choose himself when he's older if he wants to be Free, Freddie or Frederick.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 06/07/2020 13:49

My dgs is Freddie after a dgf.. Suits him.
His other dgm loves it so much her old ddog is Fred!

Whatsyourflava · 06/07/2020 14:04

Ah it's a lovely name and perfect that it has meaning for both of you! Sorted!

LotusClover · 06/07/2020 14:09

I hate cutesy names on boys but Freddie is alright. A million times better than Teddy.

Phthalo · 06/07/2020 14:46

Absolutely love it, super friendly name, cool, fun kind of guy. Very popular, I guess for those reasons!

mummy2myJJ · 06/07/2020 14:49

I loooove the name Freddie, so cute x

FirstTimeMumToBe123 · 06/07/2020 15:19

Thanks everyone, maybe we've finally found a boys name! 😅

Yes, Freddie is a naughty boys’ name, along with Albie, Alfie, Ronnie, Reggie etc. Frederick is fabulous.

Poppydaisies · 06/07/2020 15:38

Frederick is nice.

Freddie is too cutesy imo. These cutesy names will soon sound dated imo

Letthemysterybe · 06/07/2020 15:56

Freddie is not a naughty boys name. There is no such thing. For every naughty child I have taught, there has been a good child with the same name.

Newchapter2020 · 06/07/2020 16:03

It's a popular name, there's 3 Freddie's in year 3 7/8 years olds and that's only out of 20 children.

daisypond · 06/07/2020 18:48

Frederick or Alfred. Not Freddie..

123Dancewithme · 07/07/2020 00:56

Freddie is cute but I’d definitely put Frederick on the birth certificate.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2020 01:03

'Naughty children's names'? Really? There's no such thing, names don't come with a label to be attached to a child, ffs.

Anyway, back to the name. Freddie is just too cutesy by far. I dislike Frederick too, but at least it's not one of these dreadful 'ie' ending boys' names.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/07/2020 09:10

Definitely put Fredrick on the birth certificate and Freddie day to day. Where I am there’s an overload of this sort of name (Freddie, Archie, Alfie, Ronnie etc) but Freddie is probably the nicest of them.

BabyLlamaZen · 07/07/2020 19:45

Frederick is great. And good to give him choices.

zingally · 10/07/2020 12:43

To me, Freddie is a cheeky toddler name. Cute until they're 10, then it starts to sound a bit silly.

I'd put Frederick on the BC, so he can easily morph into a Fred when he's older.

I can imagine Fred the bank manager, but not Freddie the bank manager.

emilybrontescorsett · 10/07/2020 17:35

Too old fashioned for me.
I think it will date rather like Wayne.
Use it if you like it, it's very popular but I'm not keen on cutesy nickname types of names.

BeMorePacific · 10/07/2020 18:21

I really love Fred as the NN. Maybe Freddie as a family name. It’s lovely either way xx

foxtiger · 11/07/2020 18:41

I only know one Freddie and he is not particularly naughty. I quite like it, but I think I would use Frederick as the full name - it's got a sort of gravitas that he might appreciate at some point in his life, and it means if he ever happens to be in a situation where there are lots of Freddies he could choose to be Rick instead!

Twizbe · 13/07/2020 21:11

Frederick was our boys name for number two - she was a girl though.

Middle name would have been Roger

clary · 13/07/2020 21:16

Freddie is a great name! I know a few and none of them are naughty, in fact the oldest child Freddie I know did v well in his A levels last year, and the next oldest got great GCSEs so they must have been doing something right in school 😀

Most of the Freds I know were Freddie when small and maybe Fred when older.

MummaGiles · 13/07/2020 21:18

Freddie is lovely, it’s one we considered.
