After a looooong search for names that we both like, DH and I have finally narrowed our name choice down to two for our little girl who is due in 3 weeks time! 😁

We are deciding between
Lily Rae
Tegan Rae

Lily has been a favourite for a while, Tegan is a newcomer! I like Tegan due to its Welsh origin, and we are both Welsh. But not sure if I like the shortened “Teeg”? Lily is more popular, but not sure it’s unique enough - we have a VERY common surname!

Middle name is after my sister, so that won’t be changing.

Which does everyone prefer? If any! 😊

Or do we keep both for now and see which suits her better when she arrives? X

Prefer Tegan. Don’t love either, tbh.

What about:

Anwen Rae
Bethan Rae
Megan Rae
Sioned Rae

I prefer Lily but have known people by both names so probably sways me a little. Congrats on your little girl! 💐🦄

Tegan Rae.
Lily is very popular and coupled with your common surname it may sound a bit meh.

micc · 04/07/2020 14:21

I love the name Tegan! Tegan Rae sounds lovely too, I prefer names that are a but different and I know a lot of Lily's. But Lily is a very beautiful and classic name. You would probably just call her Tegan as the name is pretty short anyway, or maybe just T?
Might be worth waiting till you see her and what she suits if you have narrowed it down to only 2 :)

SE13Mummy · 04/07/2020 14:25

I prefer Lily of the two. There are lots of beautiful Welsh names, if you're after something less popular, is there a Welsh name you both like? I know teenagers named Isolde, Nimue, Carys, Arwen and Emlyn (not all Welsh and most live in London).

PeskyRooks · 04/07/2020 14:26

I prefer Tegan Rae.
I love the name Lily but Lily Rae reminds me of Bily Ray Cyrus. That might just be me though to be fair.

GirlCalledJames · 04/07/2020 14:29

I love Rae as a first name.

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2020 14:29

Hi Dav87,
If you are in Wales, do not call your DD Tegan. It is the welsh word for toy.

It's pronounced TEGG-ann, not Tea-gun.

I'd guess that there could be a Lily May in your DD. If your surname is very common, I'd pick a more unusual first name, but not Tegan.

userabcname · 04/07/2020 14:29

I'd keep both and see which suits. I prefer Lily but Tegan is cute too.

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2020 14:31

oops, that should have read I'd guess that there could be a Lily May in your DD's peer group.

Is Rae short for Rachel?

Whatsyourflava · 04/07/2020 14:31

Prefer Lily - beautiful

Tabitha?

I think Tegan's awful, Lily is far nicer.

Sdoo4 · 04/07/2020 17:35

@GirlCalledJames

I love Rae as a first name.
I agree, I love Rae as a first name but not too keen on Tegan or Lily.

Tegan. I went to school with one and she was lovely.

Anappleaday1 · 04/07/2020 19:45

Lily

IckleBear · 04/07/2020 20:03

How about Layla Rae instead?

Chickoletta · 04/07/2020 20:17

As a PP said, Tegan means pretty doll/toy in both Welsh and Cornish and is definitely correctly pronounced Tegg-an not Teeg-an. I teach in Cornwall and we usually have One or two per year group here. My goddaughter is an amazing 20 yr old Tegen.

The Teegan pronunciation is an Americanism.

CaffiSaliMali · 05/07/2020 17:23

Another one flagging that Tegan is TEGG-ann, not TEE-gun, and is the Welsh word for toy.

If you want something Welsh we have lots of beautiful names like Alys, Eira and Mari.

Otherwise Lily is much nicer than Tegan. It can be cymrified to Lili as well.
