Harriet or Charlotte

We are due with our second baby (gender unknown, but we are certain of a boys name), at the end of the month and I can't decide between two girls names. We already have a daughter names Evelyn.

Struggling to decide between...

Harriet (would always be known has Hattie)

Or

Charlotte (would always be known as Lottie)

(Middle name for either would most likely be Eliza)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I like Charlotte. But I really dislike Lottie. Why change Charlotte to Lottie as they're both 2 syllables?!

CookieDoodles · 03/07/2020 20:05

It's the name Lottie that we actually like!
Whilst we both think Charlotte is a pretty name, it's just not one that we both love. She would just have Charlotte as a formality on her BC, and if she chose to use it in the future then she would have the option (job applications/ interviews etc - sounds a bit more professional I guess)

Prefer Lottie.

Pippilsngstrumpfi · 03/07/2020 20:07

If you want Lottie, name her Lotta or Lotte.

Charlotte is a different name imo and Charlie a much more natural shortening.

BenScalesIsAGod · 03/07/2020 20:11

Harriet for me x

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2020 20:12

Harriet for me.

Bowerbird5 · 03/07/2020 20:12

Harriet.

There is lots of Charlottes about very few Harriets. I have worked in Primary schools and nurseries for thirty years and never come across one had a friend Martha years ago who called her daughter Harriet and I have always loved it. It goes well with Evelyn.

Boringnamechanging · 03/07/2020 20:16

Harriet

I think it flows better with Eliza, plus Charlotte Eliza(beth) is a bit too royal for me.

TFSRM · 03/07/2020 20:21

Harriet definitely.

LilacSloth · 03/07/2020 20:47

Much prefer Charlotte (Lottie) to Harriet.

abigailthespiderinthehat · 03/07/2020 20:49

Love love love Lottie as a nn for Charlotte! I would have liked to use it but it really doesn't go with my surname!

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/07/2020 20:53

Harriet definitely. I have known 5 Charlottes in my life and all absolutely hated being called lottie! Have only known 1 Harriet who got called Harry which she quite liked!

bridgetreilly · 03/07/2020 20:57

Harriet. I really like it, and I love Hattie. Great choice, OP.

moonlight1705 · 03/07/2020 20:58

I've got an Elizabeth Harriet so think it's a perfect name combination.

Pippilsngstrumpfi · 03/07/2020 21:04

Harriet nickname Harry is cute.

I don't like Hatty/Hattie 🎩 sounds like a little hat.

Namechange8471 · 03/07/2020 21:07

Harriet

123Dancewithme · 03/07/2020 21:32

Harriet Eliza is lovely.

Whatsyourflava · 03/07/2020 22:24

Really love both names
I think Lottie would work well as a nickname for Charlotte especially these days where nursery and school ask you what you'd like your child to be "known as" so just write "Lottie" (and not Charlie) on the form

Starbuggy · 03/07/2020 23:16

I love both but prefer Charlotte/Lottie
I think Lottie is a more common nickname for children now than it was when we were kids, and if you introduce her as Lottie then nobody will call her Charlie

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 03/07/2020 23:44

I prefer Charlotte to Harriet. However I prefer Hattie to Lottie.
Sorry that's not helpful is it.

Although I love Eliza as a middle name

thistimelastweek · 03/07/2020 23:48

Charlotte. Harriet.
Lottie. Hattie.
Like them all.
Sorry. I haven't helped.

Lollypop4 · 03/07/2020 23:52

My SIL is Charlotte but has always been known as Lottie. Though a lot of people call her "Lot" too.
I love the name.
Harriet might also get shortened to "Harri"

mellowww · 03/07/2020 23:53

Charlotte

MintyCedric · 03/07/2020 23:58

I love both names. Slightly prefer Harriet as its more unusual, but equally not keen of Hattie as a nickname a d prefer Lottie!

QuantamBaby · 04/07/2020 00:09

Lottie definitely....
