I didn't want a girly name either as I'm tall and likely my daughter will be too. I could never quite imagine a 6ft Lily or Poppy.

My LG is Cerys, other names we considered were
Elizabeth
Alexandra
Catherine
Freya
Eleanor (Nora)
Frances
Imogen

@Lumie123 Lois was the first name to come to mind. Also Inez, Eseld, Ingrid, Renfri, Sylvie, Thora, Tilda, Trudie, Xanthe, Hebe, Gwen, Tess, Rowan, Arlet, Maeve, Aphra, Astrid, Ebrel, Ishbel, Eilish, Eden, Autumn.

@Lumie123 sorry having re-read your criteria I’ve spectacularly failed to fit the brief there 😂 for some reason I had unusual in my head rather than not too unusual. Lois still fits at least I feel 😂 . Edith, Iris, Margot, Honor, Eleanor, April, Harriet, Beatrice or Bea, Cecily, Eve, Ivy, Gwyneth, Lilith.

I really like Cerys that a pp chose, and Angharad. We had Magdalen, Livia, Jocelyn and Elinor on our list but went with Elowen.

Generally, biblical or royal family names, literary characters (Shakespeare, Dickens, Austen, Bronte etc not Harry Potter or chick lit)

I'd avoid anything starting with A or E that is two or more syllables, with lots of vowels and contains the consonants, L, N or V.

I'd also avoid names that appear a lot on here

Interesting suggestions here, will have a think of some more

I like Margaret , Elizabeth, Hannah and Emma as timelines names. All have been in and out of the top 100 through history. Love the name Imogen.

Seen as you've said you don't want a "trendy name that is likely to date" I'm really surprised to see SO many people (Eg @Lavenderbluesy @RumDo @Charis1503 @audreyand @Edenember ) keep repeatedly suggesting the name Rowan as that's the ultimate trendy name to me. Never before been in the top 100 in history til now when it's leaping up the charts at the exact same time as names like Roman (with an M) which was the top fastest rising boy name-( leaping about 800 places over recent times, will be top 20 soon). It's the epitome of trendy to my ears (this generation's Darren or Sharon) but appreciate we all have different opinions on this!

@Whatsyourflava

I see what you’re saying about Rowan, but it’s a nice name, and seems to fit the brief otherwise. I’m a bit biased though, as I know a very lovely teen Rowan!

Surely ‘trendy’ is a bit subjective too? - eg I wouldn’t have included Greta, because it feels like a soon-to-be everywhere name, and likely to date.

Love your other suggestions though Smile

@RumDo yes interesting about Greta.
Greta still currently outside the top 500 names so extremely rare. Not met one yet. Will be interesting to see what happens to it in terms of popularity over next few years though (I'm such a loser, I know!)
