Our baby girl is due to arrive next week and we're stuck on names.
I like Violet, Alba, Molly, Clara, Norah and Martha.
My other half likes Hazel, Katie and Isabelle. I could go with Hazel but not keen on Katie or Isabelle.
Any other suggestions? Or thoughts on those?

@Caffeineandicecream of all of your names I like Clara and Norah the best, both on my list. It seems you both like quite classic names but you’re a bit edgier, granny chic whereas your OH is very conservative. Maybe a compromise could be found in a classic that’s established but lesser used, the first one to spring to mind was Eliza, has an edgier spunky sound but is rooted in history too. Honor? Aphra?

Love Violet and Martha!! Two of my favourites. You might find your husband gets used to them. He's probably imagining a Martha or Violet at school with him in the 1980s and I can see that back then it would have sounded strange. These names are much more mainstream now. Even names like Elsie are in the top 20 (I'll have to double check that but high up the charts)

I love Martha and Hazel.

My first thoughts are Heather, Eleanor and Jasmine

Love Alba and Violet!

Alba, Martha and Hazel are my favourites from your combined lists. All beautiful.

Violet and Alba were on my shortlist. I also had

Phoebe
Claudia
Iona

Thank you for taking the time to make these great suggestions and the feedback. There are some lovely ones that i hadn't considered before like Honor, Flora, Jemima and Cleo. I love Eliza but as her middle name is already decided as Lisa, I feel like I should avoid any variants, which is a shame as Elsie and Eliza are both beautiful. We might just have to see which name fits when she arrives.

Oh my god Clara is my fave!

I have a Heidi but always said if I had another girl she would be a Clara.

Other names I like are Claudia, Esther, Margot, Ines and Naomi.

Violet - not keen. It’s a weed.
Alba - OK-ish.
Molly - OK. Prefer Mary. Or Polly?
Clara - a bit tired now. Lucy?
Norah - dreary. Eleanor?
Martha - dreary, and 20 years out of date. I know several in their late teens, early 20s.
Hazel -dull. Rowan?
Katie - Catherine/Katherine is better.
Isabelle - naff spelling. Isabel or Isobel are nice.

TanginaBarrons · 28/06/2020 08:58

Love your names - dont like your oh's.

A lot of yours were on our list and we went for Frances. Classic and strong but not overused or hackneyed (i hope 😂)
