don't use Mellissa, they will spend their whole life explaining the weird spelling. And I'm not sure how the pronunciation is different anyway my brother's name.is usually spelt with a double letter but for some reason his is spelt with 1, it has been a pain for his whole life

Well, if you're Turkish and/or live in Turkey, then sure.

Personally, I don't think it's a great choice in the UK because it looks so much like a typo so I think she will have to spend a lot of time correcting people who assume she is called Melissa.

I googled Melis, it came up with a bunch of restaurants, a Turkish hotel, some people with the surname and a Turkish singer in the States. How come you're considering Melis, OP? It doesn't look like a common name from anywhere (based on that quick search). My first thought was it looks like something medical and that it wasn't a very nice sound.

I'd go for Melissa unless Melis is a strong part of your cultural identity.

I've taught a couple of Melis/Meliz s, all lovely girls so I'd say go for it!
