Melissa. Never heard Melis before.
How about Melitta?

Elouera · 24/06/2020 13:10

Melis sounds like a surname, I therefore prefer Melissa.

As another option, I went to school with a Mellisa, pronounced Mel-Lisa

123Dancewithme · 24/06/2020 16:52

Melissa

shartsi · 24/06/2020 16:53

Melissa

Jj2431 · 24/06/2020 16:55

Melissa. Is melis even a name?

Londoner99 · 24/06/2020 17:01

Surely Melis is made up name? Melissa is nice, I haven't come across one in a very long time.

Angelonia · 24/06/2020 17:02

Melissa

Angelonia · 24/06/2020 17:03

Lissa is a nice nickname.

Ughmaybenot · 24/06/2020 17:03

Is Melis actually a name? I don’t like it, it sounds unfinished. Melissa is lovely and very underrated if you ask me.

Nquartz · 24/06/2020 17:06

@Elouera

Melis sounds like a surname, I therefore prefer Melissa.

As another option, I went to school with a Mellisa, pronounced Mel-Lisa

don't use Mellissa, they will spend their whole life explaining the weird spelling. And I'm not sure how the pronunciation is different anyway Confused my brother's name.is usually spelt with a double letter but for some reason his is spelt with 1, it has been a pain for his whole life

Agree with PP that Melis doesn't even sound or look like a real.name.

octobersky19 · 24/06/2020 17:07

Melissa

TheVanguardSix · 24/06/2020 17:10

I love the name Mailis or two LLs, Maillis (pronounced My-lees).
I prefer Melis to Melissa and would pronounce it (Meh-lees).

bridgetreilly · 24/06/2020 17:33

Melisande, perhaps? You can't have meant Melis, surely? Poor kid will spend its whole life explaining that it isn't a typo.

Glowcat · 24/06/2020 17:39

Melis is a Turkish name

tillytoodles1 · 24/06/2020 17:39

I know a Melis
It's a girls name in Turkey .

Monkeytapper · 24/06/2020 17:45

How about Marissa?

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/06/2020 17:48

Do you mean Mailis, lovely Dutch name, pronounced ‘my-leese’?

GaraMedouar · 24/06/2020 17:50

Maelys? French name

bridgetreilly · 24/06/2020 17:54

Ah, just seen OP's other thread on the same name.

Well, if you're Turkish and/or live in Turkey, then sure.

Personally, I don't think it's a great choice in the UK because it looks so much like a typo so I think she will have to spend a lot of time correcting people who assume she is called Melissa.

whatausername · 24/06/2020 17:55

I googled Melis, it came up with a bunch of restaurants, a Turkish hotel, some people with the surname and a Turkish singer in the States. How come you're considering Melis, OP? It doesn't look like a common name from anywhere (based on that quick search). My first thought was it looks like something medical and that it wasn't a very nice sound.

I'd go for Melissa unless Melis is a strong part of your cultural identity.

JammyDodgersandPeas · 24/06/2020 17:59

I've taught a couple of Melis/Meliz s, all lovely girls so I'd say go for it!

daisypond · 24/06/2020 19:03

Melis is fine. It’s nice.

SnowdropFox · 24/06/2020 20:03

Prefer Melissa. To me, Melis just looks like you forgot to write down the rest of the name..

Tillygetsit · 24/06/2020 22:24

And the ignorant dislike of forrin names continues. Both are lovely OP.

Scruffyoak · 24/06/2020 22:26

Could OP mean Melissa or Melisa?
