Nora/Norah - how popular?

Hi all,

I'm looking at names for DC3 and LOVE Norah (personally prefer that spelling to Nora) and I'm trying to gauge how popular it is. Both DC1&2 both have uncommon but known names (sitting at around 400-500 in name charts) and would like something similarly unusual for number 3 (or I worry it will look like we've given up and lost interest 😂).

Both Nora and Norah sit outside the top 100 but I wonder if it falsely looks more uncommon than it is because of the two spellings. Aka if they were considered one name would it actually be in top 100?

Just wondering if you know any where you live and if you would consider it unusual or quite run of the mill?

Thanks

In 2018:
267 Noras
168 Norahs
435 total

which is exactly the same number of babies given the name Amaya, at #123.

I've never met one, adult or child. Hope this helps :)

I know 2, and agree I prefer the spelling with a h.
Love the name xx

Anni3getyourgun · 22/06/2020 16:39

I love this name and I don’t know any of any age either Smile

Whatsthekey · 22/06/2020 16:45

I love this name too! I have 2 DS but this was my top choice for a girl. Go for it if you love it.

Whatsthekey · 22/06/2020 16:46

Oh and i only know 1 who is from the middle east.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/06/2020 16:52

I grew up in the 60s and Nora has connotations of the nit nurse

Nurse Nora the nit explorer.

Angelonia · 22/06/2020 16:53

I don't know any.

Janek · 22/06/2020 16:56

I've got a Nora. She's 11. She's the only child Nora I know, but my Nana was Nora and so was my Great Nana.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 22/06/2020 16:59

An old schoolmate recently called her dd Norah- I remember seeing the announcement and being raging that I didn’t have it on my own list when dd was born!

I don’t know any others- I love Thora as well.

@ZoyaTheDestroyer that's super helpful thank you, I was struggling to find that information for names outside the top 100.

Thank you everyone for positive feedback too. I definitely think it's current fave for a girl 😊

Beautiful name!Smile

And I don't know any so don't think it too popular! X

myrtleWilson · 22/06/2020 20:32

I know one in close family - she is at primary and the only one. Spelt Norah. It really suits her!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/06/2020 20:41

Makes me think of 2 very different people Smile

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun haha I'm sure this is why I see the two spellings as very distinct names with different associations and why I much prefer Norah!

I know a couple of little Norah's, both under the age of 3. I think it's probably rising in popularity.

emmathedilemma · 23/06/2020 09:53

I like it and only know one in her early teens.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/06/2020 09:54

I love it and I know no one with the name. Spelling wise I’d go for Norah.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/06/2020 09:56

Also makes me think of a child’s book that was a favourite when I was little.

It's my youngest daughters name. We obviously love it. We preferred the Nora spelling as the h looked extra and unnecessary to us.
Not popular here in NZ but it's in the USA top 100.
We also like Cora but hubby is Corie too similar.

EachandEveryone · 23/06/2020 10:00

It makes me think of that fab US drama Parenthood. And ive loved it ever since. Also the mum in Brothers and Sisters another top show😀

Spidey66 · 23/06/2020 10:05

I quite like it, though would refer Eleanor with Nora as a nickname. My grandmother’s name was Nora

Whatsyourflava · 23/06/2020 12:39

Really lovely name. Never met one

IndieRo · 23/06/2020 13:04

My Aunt is called Nora, she's 57. Although this is her name on her birth certificate and all legal documents nobody calls her this. All her friends, work colleagues, brothers and sisters her Noeleen and all the nieces and nephews call her Nono.

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/06/2020 18:39

Beautiful name, we considered it along with Eleanora nn Nora. I do prefer Norah spelling though.

The only Nora I know is in her 70s

YouSetTheTone · 23/06/2020 20:08

My DSIS has this on her list for a girl and I like it. I slightly think it might be the new Edie/ Margot sort of name so might start getting more popular. It wasn’t around at all when I was pregnant over the last few years but I’ve seen it on the boards more often now.
