Husband and I have been discussing a 3rd baby!!!
Not sure if it will happen (only just had number 2), but discussing hypothetical boys names. He would love Edward (family name, lot of meaning to him) but I'm not sure as I pronounce it Ed- wood. Anyway would like to respect my hubby and at least have as a middle name. Thing is the other kids all have a middle name than relate to my side of the family and his last name. Was thinking we could use Maxfield as 1st name because it share the same meaning as my last name - have always loved Max.
Maxfield Edward
Thoughts?

Personally no but what ever floats your boat

Edward is five

Pippinsqueak · 19/06/2020 03:01

*fine

Ringsender2 · 19/06/2020 03:13

Sorry, but when I saw "Maxfield" in the title, the song "Saturday night..." by Wigfield started going round my head. (Showing my age.)

It's not for me personally, sorry OP

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/06/2020 03:18

No.

Topseyt · 19/06/2020 03:23

Edward is a nice, strong and classic boy's name. I like it.

I've never heard of Maxfield and don't particularly like it. It sounds just hastily made up and cobbled together. Not my cup of tea, but I suppose it isn't the worst I have ever heard of on here.

@Ringsender2 😆😆😆

BanishNo5 · 19/06/2020 06:05

No it sounds like a college's name.
Why ever do you prounce Edward like that?!

Celticdawn5 · 19/06/2020 06:10

I pronounce it Ed-wood as well

Bestbe · 19/06/2020 06:11

Sorry it’s awful. Like the name of a housing complex in the suburbs of Slough.

Pinkypink · 19/06/2020 06:44

Maxfield sounds like a shopping centre to me.
Am muttering Edward to see how I pronounce it.... how else can it be said apart from edwood?

MrsGilly1 · 19/06/2020 07:39

I agree it sounds like a shopping centre! But your baby your choice!

I also pronounce Edward as Ed Wood? How else is it pronounced?!

Roselilly36 · 19/06/2020 07:42

Maxfield sounds like an address to me.

KatherineJaneway · 19/06/2020 07:49

Maxfield sounds like a medicine to me. Much prefer Edward.

Grandadwasthatyou · 19/06/2020 08:01

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.

GoingBackTo505 · 19/06/2020 08:02

If you love Max, call him Max. I've never heard of Maxfield but it doesn't sound like a name.

Skyliner001 · 19/06/2020 08:03

Maxfield is terrible.

KingofDinobots · 19/06/2020 08:03

Maxfield sounds made up and a bit strange to me, I don’t like it sorry.

If you’re not keen on EDWARD, how about one of the names related to it or that derive from it? Eg Edison, Eduardo, Ted or Teddy?

Apolloanddaphne · 19/06/2020 08:08

I am not keen on Maxfield. It is very like the name of a house near me (Mayfield).

The whole Edward pronunciation comes down to accent as it usually does on here. I am Scottish and pronounce it Ed-word.

Spied · 19/06/2020 08:09

I really dislike Maxfield. It's bad. Sorry.

I pronounce Edward as Ed Word Grin.
I do like Edward.

BoudicasBoudoir · 19/06/2020 08:12

Maxfield makes me think of Maxwell Caulfield who was in Dynasty back in the day. He had a weird American accent which I later realised was because he was from Derbyshire.

I don’t like Maxfield. Sorry.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/06/2020 08:13

@Grandadwasthatyou

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.
There is literally no difference between these two in my head!

Maxwell is better than Maxfield, which doesn't sound like a name.

Blursula · 19/06/2020 08:14

Max is lovely and there are so many nicer variations - Maxwell, Maximus, Maximilian...

notso · 19/06/2020 08:21

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.
They sound exactly the same in my accent.

Maxfield doesn't sound right to me but I love Max. There's Maxwell, but also I like Maxton or the welsh Macsen.

Pegaroo · 19/06/2020 08:23

Maybe maxfield as a middle....middle names are designed for going a bit nuts.
Edward is lovely, maybe just work on your elocution.
