Beautiful. Classic and timeless.

villainousbroodmare · 15/06/2020 02:03

Perfection. Simple, elegant, feminine, strong. No pronunciation or spelling issues.

Whiffenpoofs · 15/06/2020 02:04

Agree with PP - classic, timeless, elegant and feminine. It is such a beautiful name!

Yankathebear · 15/06/2020 02:04

Beautiful.
To me Helen is someone who is kind, classy, elegant and clever. (No, I’m not a Helen).

OnABeachSomewhere · 15/06/2020 05:52

Classic.

PetraRabbit · 15/06/2020 06:43

All of the above but also refreshing these days. Something quite cute about a baby Helen!

Palavah · 15/06/2020 06:45

Lovely

N0ManJan · 15/06/2020 06:48

I love it, completely agree with PP. It’s very elegant and a lovely name to grow into

Twizbe · 15/06/2020 06:49

I know lots of Helens, they are all lovely people.

Eyewhisker · 15/06/2020 07:04

I like it but one of my daughter’s friends is called Helen and she uses her middle name as it is a ‘mum’s name’.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 15/06/2020 07:19

There were 9 in my year at school. I'm in my early 40s. I've not taught a Helen for years, but there are a fair few Helenas and Ellens. It's nice, and you'll be ahead of the curve, but it's bound to become popular again soon, I think.

Literaryseed · 15/06/2020 07:22

I have a Helena (pronounced Helen-a) which I think is a softer more classic version of Helen. It has tons of great nicknames - Nell, Lena, Hela etc.

seriousandloyal · 15/06/2020 07:30

Beautiful name

daisypond · 15/06/2020 07:37

It’s lovely. Nicely timed, as we are moving away from the frillier, more continental -a names to simpler ones.

Mountains91 · 15/06/2020 07:39

It’s one of my daughters middle names.
I love it

elfran · 15/06/2020 08:25

It's gorgeous, and agree with a pp that Helens are almost uniformly lovely people.

redwoodmazza · 15/06/2020 08:35

Helen - lovely!
No need for any NN.

[As an aside, what is it with Mumsnet and the need to suggest NNs???]

cloudsinthesky24 · 15/06/2020 13:37

I've name changed for this as Helen is my name.

I'm finding it really strange reading all these positive comments about my name as I've always disliked it.

I'm in my 40's, so growing up I was always one of several Helen's in my class at school and I just thought it was so boring. All my friends had much more interesting names and I felt really dull in comparison.

I remember my mum once telling me about an alternative name they'd nearly called me but then changed their mind at the last minute and went with Helen. I wished they'd gone with the original choice! I never told my parents I didn't like my name as I didn't want to hurt them as they both loved it.

Obviously it's only a name and I got over my teenage angst and disappointment at being given it, but I can't say I like it anymore now as an adult.

Sorry to put a dampner on all the positivity about it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/06/2020 13:38

Love it!

Puppulangstrumpfi · 15/06/2020 13:40

Helen is beautiful and classy.

Easy to pronounce and spell. (Unlike Helena which is often mispronounced)

fudgesmummy · 15/06/2020 14:11

@cloudsinthesky24
Are you me?!
I'm a Helen and like you I've never likes it!
And my parents were going to call me Zoe which I much prefer, but changed their minds!!! 😮

MikeUniformMike · 15/06/2020 14:15

I like it and prefer it to Helena, Ellen etc.
Classic and timeless.

@fudgesmummy Grin
Funny that the only two people on the thread who don't like it are both actually called Helen!
Zoe is lovely. I was going to be Lucy. Would have much preferred that too.
Oh well... best not to dwell. Lol.

BasiliskStare · 15/06/2020 14:31

My father wanted me to be called Helen , my mother got her way -so I m not - but I think it is a lovely name
