Hello, me and DH have two names narrowed down for our DS due in a couple of weeks - which do people here prefer? We will most likely shorten to Alex or Chris. Thanks Smile

Christopher - well overdue a revival.

Angelonia · 14/06/2020 08:45

I like both of these - I think Alexander is the one I'd choose.

12345ct · 14/06/2020 08:49

Christopher is better Alexander is used so much it's worn out it's everywhere. X

ttigerlilly · 14/06/2020 08:49

I like Alex, so Alexander.

Congratulations OP, wishing you and baby all the best for two weeks time Thanks

OddBoots · 14/06/2020 08:53

Both are lovely. Alexander could also be a Xander and Christopher could be a Kit. It's nice to have nickname options.

BeMorePacific · 14/06/2020 08:53

Christopher for me. I like Kit as a NN x

Whatsyourflava · 14/06/2020 08:54

Alexander

NaToth · 14/06/2020 08:54

As a PP said, Christopher, overdue for a revival.

IggyAce · 14/06/2020 08:56

Christopher as it will be less popular but I would go with Kit as a nn as Chris sounds dated.

happystory · 14/06/2020 08:57

Unhelpfully I like both. Everyone I've known with those names has been lovely. But of the shortened versions I prefer Alex.

seriousandloyal · 14/06/2020 08:59

I prefer Alexander, both are good names though.

sweetnosugar · 14/06/2020 09:02

Alexander!

Dozer · 14/06/2020 09:03

Like both!

Ellie02041994 · 14/06/2020 10:10

@IggyAce don’t take offence - but Kit seems like one of those names that seems cool but aren’t very traditional and won’t stand the test of time. Whereas with Chris I’d say it would imo.

@BeMorePacific is it a common thing for Christopher to be shortened to Kit now? I much prefer Chris see and don’t really like Kit.

They are both lovely classic names but I prefer Alexander

Muddlingalongalone · 14/06/2020 10:17

Christopher- Alex has been very popular in recent times. Both lovely though.

babynamelover · 14/06/2020 10:21

I like Alexander more 😁.

zafferana · 14/06/2020 10:24

Those names were both on our short list, but we already knew three Alexanders so we went with Christopher. It's such a great name and it really suits our DS. He loves it. Unfortunately, there is another one in his (small primary) year, but they are both known as different shortened versions of the name and it's fine. It wasn't even Top 100 when he was born, but it's Sod's Law that whatever name you pick, there will be another one.

BananaSpanner · 14/06/2020 10:24

I like Christopher, Kit, Alexander and Alex. I don’t particularly like Chris, it is not a classic and I think of middle aged men (and women).

OddBoots · 14/06/2020 10:29

The name Chris makes me think of many fabulous people, it is a strong name. 😊
