Hello

I want RARE girl name (doesn't have to be trendy) that sounds or looks

  • sophisticated
  • educated
  • relatively strong
  • a bit literary maybe
  • beautiful (I mean the spelling)
  • it's OK if it's a bit hard to pronounce (and spell)

please give me some name suggestions!

Here are some of my favorites

  1. Joyzelle (JOY-zelle)
  2. Aoife (EE-fa)
  3. Leontyne/Leontine (lay-ON-teen)
  • I'll call her Leo as a nickname
4) Faustina (FAU-s-TINA)
  • nickname - Tina
5) Louella/Luella (loo-WELL-la) 6) Rosalind (ROSE-a-lind) 7) Rosamond/Rosamund (ROSE-a-mond) 8) Amaryllis (am-muh-REEL-lis) 9) Cassiopeia (kass-ee-OH-pi-ah)
  • nickname Cassie

Aoife is really popular so I'd avoid that if you want a 'rare' name.

Louella is the name of an actor's daughter who died of a drug overdose in tragic circumstances a couple of years ago, so I'd avoid that as well.

Rosalind is nice.

How about:

Blythe
Maeve
Desdemona
Camille
Damita
Cecily
Vivienne
Coralie
Daphne

mam0918 · 12/06/2020 20:26

a lot of them arent used much for a reason they dont come across as sophisticated at all, in fact several gave the opposit vibe but Rosalind and Rosemund are very nice

Calliope might fit your style

heyyyyyyyy · 12/06/2020 20:29

thank you all!
I'm new here so I'm not so familiar with how this forum works lol
but yeah!! you have given me some special ideas!

Zilpha - pronounced with a "f" sound .

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/06/2020 20:40

Rosalind and Rosamund both have a ‘ros’ or ‘roz’ sound rather than ‘rose’. If you are particularly keen on the pronunciation that you mentioned then you might find this frustrating.

Samtsirch · 12/06/2020 20:59

Anais
Catering
Émeline
Gilda
Also I always think it’s nice if you can choose a name which has a special meaning for you or your family in some way.
Children often ask how their name was chosen, or why, and seem to feel special if it’s somehow linked to an important aspect of family history or some other relevance; a parent’s favourite flower or place or book etc.
This is just my opinion, don’t mean to interfere 😃

Samtsirch · 12/06/2020 21:00

Caterina
Not Catering

LemonadePockets · 12/06/2020 21:08

I love
Allegra
Paloma
India
Blythe

Reading your list, your names are lovely but shortening to ‘Cassie’ or ‘Tina’ seems to defeat the purpose of finding a name to meet all your requirements.

Good luck :)

WeakandWobbly · 12/06/2020 21:14

I love verity, darcy, Fiona and mary

Onekidnoclue · 12/06/2020 21:15

@Samtsirch I’m glad you posted a correction. Was about to look up the pronounciation of Catering as a sophisticated girls name

mylittleavalon · 12/06/2020 21:17

Perdita and Allegra are beautiful!

Estella, Jonquil, Portia, Priscilla, Odette, Cosette, Pandora, Electra, Juniper, Sabina,

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/06/2020 21:18

Francesca
Juliette

missmouse101 · 12/06/2020 21:23

Damaris, Iolanthe, Phaedra, Aithne, Cassia, Celeste.
Rosalind is definitely Roz-alind, not Rose-alind, which is an abomination.

Samtsirch · 12/06/2020 21:23

@Onekidnoclue
I know, and imagine if the parents were in the catering business too 🤣

Onekidnoclue · 12/06/2020 21:23

Also Ottilie and Evangeline
