I am due DS2 in October. I have so many names I love and I put my finger on one. I call my bump(Ernie, Ernest on BC) sometimes but I'm unsure as I keep looking at the names I've had think that could be the one.

I honestly never wanted to wait until he was born to decide but it seems that way Sad

Ernie is lovely, not overused!
As you already call your bump Ernie, it would be nice to call your baby boy Ernie.

I love the name! It was on my list, but then I started imagining him at 16/17, and thought he’s really not going to like the name. I don’t know why, I just worried that Ernie wouldn’t be particularly popular. x

Ernie/Ernest is lovely. Underused as others have said and always reminds me of the importance of being Ernest which I love! At my first scan the lady called my bump Elvis because of the way baby was moving and I thought uh oh that's stuck now I'll have to call baby Elvis if a boy, turned out to be a girl anyway, but when baby arrives you may find a new name comes out of nowhere after seeing them. Here are some more ideas if you like Ernest: Stanley, Wilbur, Wilfred, Edmund, Chester, Simeon, Rufus, Quentin

Me and DH narrowed names down to three with a top one and then when she arrived felt she still suited the top one and went for it. Knew straight away she wouldnt have suited one of them, but know not everyone feels that way x

I really like Ernie/ Ernest

Not popular at the moment but suspect its popularity will increase sharply in the next few years along with other names of that style (Wilf/Wilfred, Lenny/Leonard, Bertie/Albert etc)

@sweetnosugar I love the name a lot. I also love Valentino nn Tino which is completely different. I love out there names.

@BeMorePacific I think he could revert to Ernest or his middle name if he did not like it.

@mylittleavalon I picked my DS1 when I was 16 weeks, I knew he would suit it and I'm glad I went with it.

@ConnellWaldronsChain I fear it could become popular as well and dont want him out of 5 in his class. DS1 is only one in school with his name. Only met another years ago.

That's good, well I think you have a a two nice names Ernest and Valentino already! Smile

CocoLoco87 · 12/06/2020 13:53

Congratulations! I know an Ernie/Ernest and it really suits him. I dont think it will be very popular in the way Alfie/Archie are, so I would go for it.

We named both our sons after the 20 week scan Smile

I love ernie

Midnightdream · 12/06/2020 16:27

@CocoLoco87 I thought it wouldn't, but something I'm not 100% on.

@mylittleavalon I love Valentino, my DP has a lovely skin, hes not Italian but hes got dark features. Hair, eyebrows, eyes, the lot. I have very fair skin, blue eyes etc. I dont think a blonde hair boy(like DS1) could pull off Valentino.

I think I might wait until hes born and see. I'm curious to see who has the stronger genesWink
