Sofia

I've gone completely back to the drawing board with names..... Nothing felt like "the one". We are looking to buy a holiday home in Spain in the near future, so I thought maybe it would be worth looking at Spanish names, as it might give me some inspiration. Amongst the top 20 names was Sofia.

Sofia - Popular in the UK, but known worldwide. No name issues in foreign countries. Strikes me as being pretty but strong.

Also featuring in the top 20 names were Lucia and Luna which both seem like very lovely girls names. I know Luna doesn't yeild a very positive repsonse on mumset. Lucia is pronounced Loo-See-Ah. But I'm guessing this may pose challenges in the UK.

So.... what do you all think of Sofia, Lucia and Luna? Which would you choose to go with Noah and why?

Thank you!

I love Sofia and Lucia but pronounced Loo chee a

If possible, I would like to use Matilda as a middle name. So....
• Sofia Matilda
• Luna Matilda
•.Lucia Matilda

Sof ee a or Sof eye a?

Sofia and Matilda are both very good names!

WSLTitanic1912 · 10/06/2020 11:24

@WhatWouldDominicDo So-Fee-Ah is the Spanish pronounciation.

So-fee-ah or So-fye-ah?

Either way it's a good name. Classic...international..and with a good meaning. Not biased here oh no!

Destroyedpeople · 10/06/2020 11:25

Oh x post!

I think Luna goes well with Noah. I like Matilda too.

I have known two Lucias and they pronounced it Loosha...something to think about if you're worried about pronunciations.

I love Sofia and prefer it to Sophia - although I lived in a country where Sofia is the correct spelling for a long time. I think it goes best with Matilda out of the 3 too. Lucia Matilda is a bit of a mouthful and I just can't get past Luna as a human name as our big slobbery, dopey old basset hound is Luna.

I like Sofia- but I think it's quite popular so that's something to consider if that bothers you. I would pronounce Lucia- Loo-chi-a (and know two of them neither Spanish) not loo-see-a I'm not sure if anyone else is the same? But I think either way is a beautiful name. I'm not keen on Luna and dont think it flows too well with Noah- both too similar sounding. What about Carmen, Adella, Damaris?

ILoveStickers · 10/06/2020 11:51

Sofia is great.

Sophia is a classic name and with a great meaning: wisdom. Check out the story of St. Sophia as your daughter will have a name day to celebrate her saint (if you are Christian). She was a mother to saints and a woman of strength. Great choice.

Sophia is great. I’d spell it this way though. Sofia makes me think of the capital of Bulgaria.

CornerShopping · 10/06/2020 15:08

I pronounce Lucia as loo-see-ah but I speak Spanish and I actually know a few Lucias so to me it's just a regular name. Not sure how well it'd work for native English speakers.

Sofia is lovely, I also know quite a few and they all go by Sof or Sofi.

Luna is a lovely name but has lost its appeal to me due to its popularity.

I would probably choose Lucia out of the 3 options

Sofia is beautiful and goes nicely with Noah. I think it looks better than Sophia too.

Lucia and Luna are nice but Sofia is definitely my favourite.

Kittymitty38 · 12/06/2020 18:59

Gorgeous but I would spell it Sophia x

Poppyfields21 · 12/06/2020 23:12
