Joseph Trevor?

Hello, we are due to have a DS1 in a few weeks time - me and DH are pretty set on Joseph as first name, but I wanted to know what people thought about using Trevor as the middle name? I’ve heard about the name doesn’t seem to have many positive associations to people, but it was my late grandfathers name and I thought using this as a middle name would be a nice way to honour him. Thanks Smile

I wouldn't usually go for Trevor but as it has a special family meaning for you then go for it.

Tillygetsit · 10/06/2020 22:00

My ds and my dgf so fabulous to me!

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2020 22:03

I can't say I like Trevor, but I think it's wonderful that you want to use it in honour of your grandfather. Joseph Trevor flows nicely too.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/06/2020 22:03

What about Joseph trey?

JustALittlePinot · 10/06/2020 22:04

Lonely name and the suggestion of Trey is common

Chocolatecake12 · 10/06/2020 22:27

It’s lovely. Joseph is a favourite of mine anyway and middle names are rarely used. It’s a lovely way to honour your grandfather.

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 10/06/2020 22:30

I wouldn't choose the name Trevor but as it is a special family name, just go for it OP. Trey is nice too.

TheVanguardSix · 10/06/2020 22:33

Great name! Trevor is, in fact, a very cool name. I’m not from the UK originally but I’ve lived here for 20+ years. I always think it’s an absolute shame that certain names have these silly connotations. Don’t mind them, OP. Joseph Trevor is a wonderful name and it honours your very loved and cherished grandfather. Trevor deserves a comeback.

TheVanguardSix · 10/06/2020 22:34

Trey Hmm Oh dear.

MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2020 16:25

It's fine.
Trey is completely unrelated to Trevor, so god knows where that suggestion came from.
I know a Trey and it suits him, but I first heard the name on SATC, so it seems a bit American.

Trevor is from Trefor, a place name. Tre is town and for is sea or might be big.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 12/06/2020 16:27

I think it's lovely to honour a member of the family. It flows nicely with Joseph.

IsMiseMorag · 12/06/2020 16:30

If it's got a lovely family connotation for you, then go for it. This is how names come in and out of fashion, after all.

Destroyedpeople · 12/06/2020 16:30

Trevor is a fine Welsh name. 'Trey' , indeed!

Cathy1984 · 12/06/2020 16:32

Everyone in my family, including my own children have middles names with meaning. We are all named after grandparents, siblings, parents etc. I think it's lovely. Middle names are never used so I think it is a lovely idea. Joseph Trevor flows nicely too. I love the name Joseph, it my brothers name and my son's middle name

MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2020 16:33

It's Trefor in Welsh (f sounds like v), Trevor is the anglicised version. I quite like it.

alexdgr8 · 12/06/2020 16:33

that's a fine name; go with it.
definitely avoid trey. everyone. no.no. no.

Destroyedpeople · 12/06/2020 16:36

Thanks MikeUniformMike you are not the only Welsh resident/speaker on this forum. ...

MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2020 16:49

I wasn't correcting you Destroyedpeople,, I know a few Trefors and a Trevor. It's also a surname. I thought OP might like some background info.

Trey originated from the Middle English for Three and would typically be used for a third child.

Taylor1994 · 12/06/2020 17:21

@TheVanguardSix agreed, I have no idea why Trevor seems to have bad connotations (from what I observed)/don’t understand where they have come from really.

Taylor1994 · 12/06/2020 17:23

@Destroyedpeople yes! Our family is Welsh anyway.

OP posts:
Taylor1994 · 12/06/2020 17:24

@MikeUniformMike I don’t see how the two names were related either, my grandad was “Trev” for short. Unless Trey is like some alternate nickname for it or something maybe.

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 12/06/2020 18:45

No, OP, the names are completely unrelated.
I quite like the name and yes, it get shortened to Trev.

If you like it, use it.
