Thoughts on this middle?

DH have decided on the first name Fraser for our boy. Sadly we don't have Scottish roots but hopefully we could get away with it (what do you think?)
We are now struggling with middle names. Our likes are all over the place and we just can't agree on anything. We almost agreed on Thomas and then decided maybe it was a bit of just a filler middle and actually thought of Thames.

Combinations we've thought of:
Fraser Thames
Fraser Nicholas
Fraser Maxwell

We don't really have middle name traditions in our family so we're free to choose whatever we want to be honest. It took us a lifetime to agree on the first name and now the middle name is ruining our existence! Please help

You don't really need as middle name, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I live near the Thames so it seems an unusual choice, but I know of people with a river name as a first or middle name.

Fraser is really nice. Some things to consider - he'll be Frase or Fra, and people will say Frasier or write Frazer.

DH is Fraser and his middle name is James (yes he's Scottish).

You can definitely can get away with it, it's a great name.

MikeUniformMike I know middles are usually considered unnecessary but I have a first name I loathe and actually adore my middle name and so I've always used it. I like the idea of giving our DC the option of two names.

I do like the nickname Frase or just Eff as in the letter F so not really a problem.

daisypond Thanks! I think DH and I have written it down and said it out loud so many times that it sounds normal to us already and our judgment is clouded but it's nice to have a fresh set of eyes agree on it

I misread Thames as Thomas when I first skimmed your post and thought Fraser Thomas was really nice. Then I read properly and saw it was Thames, and I'm not so sure. It sounds a bit like you couldn't make up your mind between Thomas and James, tbh.

I really like Fraser Nicholas though, and Frazer Maxwell is also good.

Middle names really don't get used much in real life so it doesn't matter if it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Thames is great. Go for it

Strokethefurrywall We really loved James as a middle but felt it was a safe bet and more of the usual go-to middle name. Fraser James is lovely though but we just felt we were playing it a little bit too safe.

DramaAlpaca We did consider James and Thomas for a little bit but immediately changed our minds as we feel they're just the usual middle names (no offense at all as they are gorgeous names) but we just wanted to explore some other options.

OP, I can't imagine him not liking Fraser.
Middle names are good if the first name and surname are likely to be common, or if the whole name sounds more memorable.

Jonny Lee Miller stands out more than Jonny Miller.
Bryce Howard not as memorable as when you include Dallas.

Fraser Thames Smith (substitute surname) has a certain flair.

Fraser is perfectly fine.

Fraser is a lovely name. Thames isn't to my taste but who cares as long as you & your DH like it?

MikeUniformMike Oh our surname situation is a whole other problem as it might be double-barrelled. I have a foreign surname that I would love to pass on but it's been difficult to carry even for me in my home country as it's very uncommon and spelling is odd. Not sure I'd want to burden my child with that but it's also a part of him in a way. We haven't made up our mind yet.

iklboo We do really like but just want to make sure our judgment hasn't been compromised by the fact we have that name in our heads all day so it's nice to hear what other people think

Use your surname as a middle name.

MikeUniformMike We are still trying to decide. It really looks horrible as a middle name as in absolutely out of place. It looks slightly more acceptable as a double barrelled surname as you can actually understand it's a proper surname instead of just a random mess of letters. Thanks for the suggestion though

I prefer Fraser Maxwell out of your choices. I'm Scottish I wouldn't bat an eyelid at someone from another part of the UK as a Fraser.

Fraser (Thames) -> F. (T.) Zzadtsqarudtcuis-Smith

The first one looks easier to live with.

Do the same with them.
It would be nice for your surname to be in there, and subsequent DC could be something like
Miles Derwent Zzadtsqarudtcuis Smith
Janet Tamar Zzadtsqarudtcuis Smith

I know families that did that, or used a family name from the mother's side. Quite useful if the first name and surname are very ordinary.

Something like Harry Campbell Jones and Evie Campbell Jones - the surname is Jones.

I like Thames.

And I like thales.

My friend is called fraser and I like the name :) we call him fraz or frzz 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
