I'm finding it so hard to think of girls names that both DH and I like. I had this same problem with DD1. I keep seeing this name pop up on lists. I love this name however it seems to get really mixed responses.

do you considered Delilah a pretty name? I've seen some people don't like it due to the biblical story. I'm not religious and neither is DH but it seems to get an extreme reaction.

Would love your opinions.

I think it’s one of those name that you either love it or hate it tbh. I’d you and Dh love it though I’d go for it but I wouldn’t consider it a ‘safe’ option.

Its 100% a marmite name. However in my opinion it's not a name that will cause a lot of upset. Personally I like it a lot knowing the biblical reference and knowing the song. It's a pretty name and people get used to it. Ds has a marmite name (Conrad) he is 18 now and people just see him as his name. If your dd finds she doesn't like it there are several shortening she can use Della Lila Lia Dee for starters

It’s ok. I think it’s getting quite popular though.

OnABeachSomewhere · 07/06/2020 12:25

I like it.

Whatsyourflava · 07/06/2020 13:04

I absolutely love it. One of my very top choices for names - never met one x

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2020 14:11

It's awful.

DrDetriment · 07/06/2020 14:13

I just think of Tom Jones. It's definitely a marmite name and not one I like.

ShowOfHands · 07/06/2020 14:16

My niece is Delilah. She does get some negative reactions. My Grandma was horrified that she was being named after a "biblical harlot" (her words).

It doesn't work with every surname though. First and surname together and my niece sounds like she's describing where she went on holiday. I never realised it but several people hear it that way.

What's your name?
Delilah White
Oh I've been there on holiday

For example!

I had a chicken called Deliah.

It's a lovely name but she'll be followed round by choruses of 'Why why why' for the rest of her life. Hardly fair.

Lockdownlover · 07/06/2020 14:19

I think it’s nice. I prefer Lyla which sounds similar but doesnt have the same religious connotations.

villamariavintrapp · 07/06/2020 14:21

Lovely name, but Tom Jones has ruined it for me, couldn't use it.

Nymeriastark1 · 07/06/2020 14:27

Lovely name, i'm bias tho as my DD is called Delilah. Grin

Tillygetsit · 07/06/2020 22:53

I really don't like it. To me it sounds frilly and a bit daft.

ButterfliesandMoths · 07/06/2020 23:23

I love it

toastofthetown · 07/06/2020 23:46

Although Delilah is polarising, it made the top 100 in 2018 and is rising sharply, so she'll have a lot of company.
