Posted another thread for some more suggestions, but please could we some thoughts on our two front runner names for DD1?

Joy
Jean

Also any middle name pairings would be helpful.

Both lovely .

ReginaGeorgee · 06/06/2020 11:17

It's so hard. DH says the same "I love them both", then we're stuck! Lol! @SylvanianFrenemies

Joy is a wondeful name, representing the feeling of Joy, whereas Jean is nice but more commonplace.

ILoveStickers · 06/06/2020 11:20

Very tough. I think Jean is nice, but is a boy's name in France, so I'd find that confusing. Joy is a little old-ladyish for me (though nice).

I think I'd split the difference and go for Joan!

OnABeachSomewhere · 06/06/2020 11:28

I prefer Joy. Jean sounds a bit grumpy IMO.

OnABeachSomewhere · 06/06/2020 11:28

Frumpy not grumpy!

Pantheon · 06/06/2020 11:33

I prefer Jean of the two.

I prefer Jean I think. Also like Joan.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/06/2020 12:17

My girls middle names are Jean and Joyce. Don't think I've met any children with them as first names, which is shame as they are lovely names.

I nearly used Jean, nickname Jeannie for when she was baby, for DD1.

ReginaGeorgee · 06/06/2020 12:18

Oh it's such a touch choice. I like Joan too but DH isn't as keen as Jean/Joy.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves really? How gorgeous! What first names did you go for? I love both names! Also thought of Jeannie for nn (great minds) ☺️☺️

@babynamelover Jean Caroline is lovely!

Epigram · 06/06/2020 13:12

I like both - Jeannie is a nice nickname.

Tutina02 · 06/06/2020 13:54

Joy. It’s so gorgeous x

LockdownLucie · 06/06/2020 13:59

I like Joy (we could all do with some of that at the moment) or Hope.
Joy Jane
Joy Ann/Anne
Joy Rose
Joy Grace
Joy Elizabeth
Joy Eliza
Joy Emily
Joy Emma
Joy Charlotte
Joy Isobel
Joy Scarlett

Smile19 · 06/06/2020 14:35

Jean! My DD's middle name. Really lovely IMO. Jeanie NN is cute. Good luck OP :)

monkeyonthetable · 06/06/2020 14:42

I prefer jean because I like the nicknames Jeannie or Jeanne (zhann).

Joy is nice but I like names that allow for nicknames, so that there's some variety between what strangers and close friends call you.

Kokeshi123 · 06/06/2020 14:49

Both nice but Jean is the best. I think it's quite chic sounding.

SnowdropFox · 06/06/2020 15:12

I definitely prefer Joy.

I'd choose a longer mn with a pleasant meaning personally, like
Joy Miranda
Joy Valentina
Joy Charlotte

MittensTheSerpent · 06/06/2020 16:36

Both lovely, but Jean just wins it for me.

TheoneandObi · 06/06/2020 16:39

I like Jean a lot. She'd up being called Jeannie, which is even nicer. But gosh so funny that it's having a revival. Jean was an old ladies' name of my youth. Next I predict a comeback for Carol (although its associations with Baskin may not work!), and Karen and Sharon.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2020 17:00

I like both, but I think I'd have them as middle names.

For a first name I'd probably choose Joy.

Both are very chic sounding, and both are much nicer than Joan.

ItsTheDrama · 06/06/2020 17:01

Love Joy! Jean does feel more middle name to me for some reason.

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2020 17:26

Joy would be my preference. Such a lovely, happy name.
