Help! We have totally different name tastes and no boy names!

We've sort of managed to pick a girls name but we have nothing, not even one short listed name, for a boy, constantly vetoing each other.

I like names like Austin, Everett or Elliot - DH is not on board. He likes names like Clancy or Trent, definitely not for me.

The only name I'm sort of warming up to at the moment is Stellan (I'm Scandi so it wouldn't be totally out there).
But we're not the type for what's typically considered traditional names like Alexander, Benjamin or Oliver. Nothing wrong with them, they're all lovely, they're just not us.

Would you have any inspiration of names I could suggest to him? Im running out of ideas and I'm sure there are loads of amazing names out there I haven't even considered or stumbled across yet.

What about Ellis ?

Have you tried any of those apps which are like Tinder for baby names? It shows you a load of names and you swipe left/right depending on whether you like them. They then show you lists of names you both like.

I actually think making lists of top 20, 10 etc is a road to nowhere when you both have quite strong feelings or opposite styles, what you need to do is find names neither of you love but both of you tolerate and widen the pool from there.

Stellan was on our shortlist (had we had another baby we might have used it!)- it’s a fab name.

@NameChange30 thanks!

@esmereldaP my DH likes Logan so that could be a good contender. Thank you!! I'm loving Vaughn and Lachlan as well!

@stophuggingme Viggo is lovely 💖 we have a family friend called Leif, but a very lovely name!

@babynamelover Connor is awesome!

@OnABeachSomewhere I absolutely love Levi and Harley! Thank you

@cantsaynotocake ooooh I've not come across Ellis before!! Thank you!

@BertieBotts I haven't tried an app like that! May have to give it a shot!
I see what you mean with widening the pool so having a hope of finding something! It may need to be the next game plan if this doesn't work!

@EuphieKat Stellan is definitely growing on me! And with Stellan Skaragard making it 'mainstream', non scandi people wouldn't be too thrown by it.

Thank you everyone!!! You've really helped me out!!

This is one of the reasons we want to know if we're having a boy or a girl. It's difficult enough to find one name we both can live with, don't emwant to unnecessarily find a second.

Grufallosfriends · 07/06/2020 08:07

Yes, my gut be helpful to find out the gender to help you narrow down your names together.

How about
Magnus
Reuben
Quentin
Torsten

This isn’t a name suggestion as such, but just to say my husband and I have totally opposing name tastes (could barely name the dogs...!) I don’t know when you’re due, but guessing from username it may be December time like me? In which case, my current strategy is just to ignore it until much much nearer the time, as I think urgency will push us into compromise whereas at the moment it feels far away/abstract enough to keep vetoing each other! Just a thought.
