Is Dax too American?

I'm really keen on names that have an X or the nickname could possibly have the letter X.

I know Daxton exists but not sure I like it. Doesn't feel like a real name for some reason. I feel Dax is just easy, simple and very straightforward but I'm wondering if it might be too American or forever be linked to Dax Shepard

Dax make hair care products. If somebody told me their child was named Dax I would just think of Dax Wax.

Mesmeri · 04/06/2020 19:11

The only one I ever met, it was his nickname. His real name was Dale and he was Australian.

avocadoze · 04/06/2020 19:12

Xander?
Xavier?
Alex?

I hadn’t heard of Dax, but if that’s what you want to call your dc, then it’ll be beautiful.

Windyatthebeach · 04/06/2020 19:12

Vax?
It's a no from me.

butterflycatcher · 04/06/2020 19:12

Dexter? Shortened to Dex?
Xavier
Xander
Jaxon/Jackson shortened to Jax?

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 04/06/2020 19:13

I don’t know who Dax Shepherd is, but it makes me think of the hair wax.

Alarae · 04/06/2020 19:17

Makes me think of the red laundry detergent (Daz).

Personally I think it sounds unfinished? As if you were to name a child Nat?

DartmoorChef · 04/06/2020 19:19

It sounds like some household cleaning product. Sorry.

Destroyedpeople · 04/06/2020 19:19

I have some Dax hair stuff on my dressing table. Can't really get past that tbh...

Wishingstarr · 04/06/2020 19:21

I know a Xander and a Xavier. I am in the USA and you could get away with it here but it would be unusual. In a UK context I think it does sound like a brand name. On the other hand if you love it ignore everyone else! 😄

DPotter · 04/06/2020 19:23

Trekkies (Star Trek fans ) will know the name as it's a character on Deep Space 9. To me it also has the ring of a James Bond baddie, so not my cup of tea. As a young child there would be the risk of it turning into the nickname Dax-ie, which is just downright horrible.

Biscuitsneeded · 04/06/2020 19:23

How about Rex?

Thisismytimetoshine · 04/06/2020 19:24

It's a product, not a name.

LidlDonkey · 04/06/2020 19:25

Yes. Sounds like a dog's name.

Destroyedpeople · 04/06/2020 19:25

Mind you I did know a little boy called Amari and that is also retro hair product. So it could work....

SnaccidentsHappen · 04/06/2020 19:26

I know a Dax, he is 42. It's of French origin and means leader, I say go for it

VirginWestCoast · 04/06/2020 19:27

I don't think you can pin this on the Americans.

Diverseduvet · 04/06/2020 19:27

What does it mean? Do you like the meaning, or doesn't it have one, you just like the sound?

SallyWD · 04/06/2020 19:27

I strongly diskike it. I like Rex and Max but Dax sounds ridiculous in my opinion.

SciFiScream · 04/06/2020 19:29

Dax makes me think of the symbiont from Star Trek

Dax was the name of the being that lived inside Curzon, then Jadzia, then Ezri

It's a cool name especially if you are a Star Trek fan.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/06/2020 19:30

Female Star Trek character, Dax. Daxton is bloody awful!

HappyDinosaur · 04/06/2020 19:32

For me it's too IKEA, but its personal preference.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 04/06/2020 19:34

Daxtopher has a certain ring to it.

itssquidstella · 04/06/2020 19:34

Bill Bailey's son is called Dax; he was named after the Star Trek character.

ThisIsMyStory1 · 04/06/2020 19:35

I love it but it's the name of the coding language that Power Bi uses and I'm an Analyst Grin
