I like a name, but it also reminds me of someone else... does it go away?

boyfriend and I were thinking of names for our baby girl, and we both like a name, initially I loved it, but then I remembered someone with that name (someone that is quite popular in my work group), so every time I say the name of the baby girl to my colleages they would think of her (although we don't work directly with her),
question is... if you really like the name, does the association goes away? Does it stop bothering you that you're remembering someone?
(BTW i'm still 20 weeks so got plenty of time to choose name hehe)

Yeah I think the association goes. I work with someone with the same name as my child and in all honesty I don’t think about it. It’s not an overly common name either.

I think equally you could leave your job and then regret not calling your child that name, the colleague will be a distant memory and you’ll have settled. Always go with a name you love.

I now work with someone with the same name as my daughter and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Yeah - one of my children has the same name as an ex boyfriend (who I'm still friendly with). The only time it's ever occurred to me that they have the same name was when I text him my "babies here"! Announcement. It's a very common name.

The problem is that when we first thought of it, we both loved it (it's "Lina") and then I've remembered that girl (great artist so she's well known between my colleagues), and now I can only think about her.. so having second thoughts about it.

How about Luna instead? Sounds similar to me.

@Molip it has to be down to how bothered you are I guess. Could you spell it ‘Lena’? Or would that change the pronunciation?

Hohofortherobbers · 04/06/2020 22:28

You won't always have her as a colleague, don't let it bother you. However if you hate her I would struggle to like the name. We vetoed plenty of lovely names of people we didn't like

@TheTigerQueen I like Luna but I know too many cats with that name haha

@mamablondie2 Hummm maybe, will have a think!
