Shortlist for DS2

babbaganoush · 04/06/2020 08:47

I’m expecting my second boy soon. DS1 is called Wilfred (nickname Wilf). Please can you give your opinions on our shortlist and particularly if they ‘go’ with Wilf? Happy to hear other suggestions too as the names on the list that I love, my husband is a bit meh about and vice versa. We generally prefer names that aren’t super popular.

Seth
Elijah
Finn (Finley)
Zach (Zachary)
Otis
Rufus
Jenson
Felix
Otto
Rowan

Oh, forgot Ezra is on the list as well.

I think Wilf could go with all those names, even Finn and Felix. I like Zach however it is spelt, also Elijah and Ezra are ok but they seem to have grown massively in popularity these past few years. I know of people with these names and they are all under five Smile. Not so keen on all the other names but it’s your baby after all and these names do work with your DS1.

SnowdropFox · 04/06/2020 09:20

I quite like
Wilfred and Otis
Wilfred and Rufus
From your list.

Probably more important than whether the name goes with his brother is if the name goes with any middle or the surname imo.

userabcname · 04/06/2020 09:51

My favourites are Felix, Otto and Otis. I don't know where Finn is in general in terms of popularity but I know an awful lot of them so may be one to avoid.

babynamelover · 04/06/2020 10:14

Wilfred & Rufus is my fave. I also love Otis it was our boys name for #2. I wonder if you might like Fergus, you already have Felix the other name we had for #1.

Spied · 04/06/2020 10:18

I'm sorry but I don't think any of the names are in the same vein as Wilfred.
When I think of things that 'go' I think of
Oswald
William
Harold ( Harry)
Henry
George
Owen
Charles
Benedict

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/06/2020 10:36

I like Otis and Rufus. How about Quentin or Dominic?

Letsplough · 04/06/2020 10:44

I like Seth

Letsplough · 04/06/2020 10:45

Also don't think siblings names need to 'go' with each other.

Blursula · 04/06/2020 11:50

Seth is my fave (did a post on this recently).
Also really like Elijah (and Eli as a nn) and Felix.

I feel like Finn and Rowan are Getting soooo popular. I know several (but this might not matter to you!) I also feel like while I don’t know anyone called Otis, it seems very popular on mn and I hear it suggested a lot, so perhaps this will get popular too.

Whatsyourflava · 04/06/2020 12:05

Wow you have such a lovely list I have so many favourites. Only a couple I'm not so keen on:

Seth - love (favourite)

Elijah - love but actually prefer Eli or Ellis

Finn (Finley) - love but quite popular. Flynn?

Zach (Zachary) - love

Otis - love (favourite)

Rufus - ok. I don't say this often but it's a bit of a dog name

Jenson - love - very underused (favourite). You don't get that many J names so sounds extra special.

Felix - Love (favourite)

Otto - love (favourite)

Rowan - ok but very similar to top fastest rising boy name RoMan (with an M) and that would annoy me (Roman set to be top 20 on current trajectory). Too similar to too many other trendy names Ronan, Rohan, Roan.
Lastly RoWan is increasingly used as a girls name in America and Scotland. Same could happen here.

Ezra - Love (favourite)

babbaganoush · 04/06/2020 12:56

Thanks everyone, pleased that most opinions appear to be positive. Otis is a front runner 😊 @SnowdropFox I agree, only names that go with our surname have made it on the list!

PlantPotting · 04/06/2020 13:57

Love Seth, Zachary, Otis, Jenson, Felix and Otto.
Rowan is my baby daughters name so to me it's a girl name but I'm biased. She gets called Row a lot already which I stupidly hadn't anticipated. What I would add is that the name does get mixed up with Roman (theres 2 Romans and Rowan at our small local nursery). So if you're wanting something that feels even remotely unusual don't use it or any name like Ronan Roan and so on.

PlantPotting · 04/06/2020 13:57

Wilfred is a great name
Oh and I do like Ezra too , didn't see that

Rocksandstones · 04/06/2020 14:01

Seth - love
Elijah - love
Finn (Finley) - I do like this but I think too popular
Zach (Zachary) - like
Otis - love
Rufus - like this but decided it was too much of a dogs name
Jenson - love this and you don’t hear it much
Felix - love this..I know enough to have got past the cat association!
Otto - like
Rowan - I love this but it is very similar to increasingly popular Roman

You’ve got great taste op, most of these were on my list. I don’t think you can go wrong with any!

maddymellow · 04/06/2020 14:12

Rufus, Felix and Otto are my faves but you have a great list! I also really like Otis, Finn, Zach, Ezra and Rowan.

Dislike Finley and especially Jenson. What about Samson or Orson? The only son names I like.

DoctorBambino · 04/06/2020 15:08

Seth - quite like it
Elijah - not keen
Finn (Finley) - really like
Zach (Zachary) - love
Otis - love
Rufus - really like
Jenson - really like
Felix - no
Otto - its ok
Rowan - hate it
Ezra - its ok

LilacSloth · 04/06/2020 15:36

I think Zach and Ezra are lovely and sound the best with Wilf.

MittensTheSerpent · 04/06/2020 15:42

Seth - too mean and 'snaky'
Elijah - gorgeous
Finn (Finley) - chavvy
Zach (Zachary) - chavvy
Otis - try-hard
Rufus - ugly
Jenson - chavvy
Felix - ok but a bit overdone
Otto - posh
Rowan - lovely

pilates · 04/06/2020 16:48

Finley

Flynn999 · 04/06/2020 17:03

Seth - like
Elijah - like
Finn (Finley) love Finn the most from your list, but slightly meh on Finley
Zach (Zachary) - Not sure on this and don’t think it goes with Wilf
Otis - no
Rufus - not unless your birthing a Labrador
Jenson - don’t mind it but doesn’t ‘go’ with Wilf
Felix - a cat
Otto - no
Rowan - Think this seems to be quite popular at the moment.

DramaAlpaca · 04/06/2020 18:16

I think Otis, Otto, Zachary and Ezra sound best with Wilf.

babbaganoush · 04/06/2020 19:18

Thanks everyone. @maddymellow I really like Samson and suggested it a while ago but my husband wasn’t keen.

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 03:31

Seth✔️love oddly
Elijah❔like it when shortened to Eli
Finn (Finley)❔don't like finley but love finn or flynn, have you thought about calling him the Irish spelling fionn or finbar
Zach (Zachary)❔like it
Otis❌no
Rufus❌no
Jenson❌no
Felix❌reminds me of the cat
Otto❌no
Rowan❌definitely not

xanderllama · 05/06/2020 13:21

Samson is one of my top choices actually (Samson not Sam)! It’s a great name but if you call him Samson and you later have a girl don’t call her Delilah Smile
