Do you know of anyone that's called their baby Villanelle?

Just finished Killing Eve and it occurred to me that there may be some baby Villanelles out there.

It has a nice sound, but obviously not the best inspiration.

I mean it was already a name (from a poem) so likely there already were a few

It’s the name of a character in a Jeanette Winterson book. I think it’s the name of a verse form in poetry.

It's a type of poem. Like naming your child Sonnet or Haiku or Ballad.

That's really embarrassing, because I studied English Literature and I'd forgotten that. Grin

I haven't seen Killing Eve or come across this name before so I may have the pronunciation completely wrong, but all I'm seeing is Villain-elle. Like the little sister of Cruella.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 14:54

Well villanelle is a sociopathic serial killer so it's apposite

Haven't watched Killing Eve but was immediately struck by how much the name Villenelle sounded like a brand name for a vaginal pessary...just saying'

I think there’s a villanelle axe murder house somewhere in America where a family were killed so it’d be a no for me.
