Carlota

This name is one of DH's favourites and it's really growing on me. It's only one T as opposed to Carlotta since that is the Italian version and we are not Italian. I have Spanish ancestry.

Charlotte isn't really an option as I can't properly pronounce the "Ch" part. We are struggling to find middle names that we like (English) or maybe first names and turn Carlota into the middle.

I'm also slightly worried I'm going to have to find similar Spanish sounding names for other DC and it's silly but I don't know if I can commit to that
Any thoughts?

I'd pronounce Carlotta and Carlota differently. Personally I prefer Carlotta.

Bananasplitlady · 01/06/2020 22:40

Love it. Wanted to be called Carlotta growing up, thanks to a love of the "Twins at St Clare's" books. Sadly I do not look nearly half as exotic as she was described...
You dont have to commit to all your dc having similar names, although some may rule themselves out as creating an unusual combination.

Carlota is overly Spanish so you could just give any other children English sounding names. Do you have any family names that I could find a variation on it for a middle name?

Chocolatecake12 · 01/06/2020 22:41

Love it! I do prefer it with 2 t’s but that’s my personal preference.
Go for it!

LouiseTrees · 01/06/2020 22:42

Sorry I meant isn’t overly Spanish

We can't really do the Carlotta version as that's the Italian spelling and the Spanish language doesn't have the double tt so it just feels like a completely different name from another country. We might end up spending a few years in Spain down the road so don't want any trouble with spelling or people to assume we are Italian (nothing wrong with that except we are not) Sad

We don't really have any family names that we'd like as middle names to be honest. I do love my grandmother's name Luisa but not a big fan of Louise. However Carlota Luisa English Surname might sound too odd. Manuela is also one of my favourites.

It's quite nice. My favourite Spanish girls name is Rocio (pronounces Roth-ee-o)

CorianderLord · 01/06/2020 23:10

I like it!

CorianderLord · 01/06/2020 23:11

I'd pronounce it the same with one or two ts anyway

Kokeshi123 · 02/06/2020 01:40

It will be misspelt a lot, but if you can live with that, go for it! It's a nice name and reflects your heritage.

I love Luisa as well.

Allaboutthatbass · 02/06/2020 01:45

I have identical twins called Carlotta and Luisa! Colombian heritage but we went for the double t in Carlotta to make it easier for English speakers to pronounce.
We have a Carlotta Isabel and a Luisa Valentina (and also and Antonia Maite)

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2020 01:46

Both Carlota and Luisa are lovely names. Maybe this one Luisa and save Carlota for if you have another girl as the two go beautifully as siblings.

Simple one syllable middle names go -

Carlota Faye
Luisa Maude

So you have a mix

DramaAlpaca · 02/06/2020 01:58

In English I'd pronounce Carlotta and Carlota the same.

Use Carlota if you both like it.
