I can't see it getting massively popular, but agree it is on an upward trend.

NuffSaidSam · 01/06/2020 13:31

I think it will depend a lot on area as well. I think like a lot of 'cool' names Huxley's popularity will be area based.

Changedname81 · 01/06/2020 13:51

Isn’t Huxley the name of the little boy that a you tuber just “rehomed” after adopting him from China?

It’s a lovely name OP, but what a sad story as above

tellmesomethingreal · 01/06/2020 13:53

Yes it's the name of the boy, such an awful horrible story that makes me furious and heartbroken at the same time. I'm hoping it wouldn't always be associated with that though?

sweetnosugar · 01/06/2020 13:55

I don’t think the name will always be associated with that you tuber! If you like it go for it. I personally don’t know anyone called Huxley.

sawollya · 01/06/2020 13:56

It's the name of that little boy that the youtuber ''re homed'' so that's why it's being talk about now,

I prefer Aldous!

tellmesomethingreal · 01/06/2020 13:57

Sadly Aldous sounds terrible with our surname!!

sawollya · 01/06/2020 13:58

Ps, What were that Youtuber's other children called? I've a feeling that Huxley fits in with American trends (which come this direction to a degree) so it won't be 'rare'.

RaininSummer · 01/06/2020 13:59

I have never met any children called this but it did bring the Huxley Pig character to mind.

SanFrancisco49er · 01/06/2020 13:59

It sounds more like a name for a dog to be honest - I can see a lovely golden retriever being called Huxley.
But this is why I'd never ask anyone's opinions on baby names as everyone will think something different and it might put you off. If you like it, go for it! Smile

It's a surname and a place. And a children's TV pig in the 90s.

tellmesomethingreal · 01/06/2020 14:05

Those who hate it, what names are similar? I like the X and potential nicknames - Hux, Huck etc

OP posts:
tellmesomethingreal · 01/06/2020 14:05

Can't have dexter

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/06/2020 14:06

recycledteenager24 · 01/06/2020 14:10

huck would be open to too much ..er..teasing. makes me think of huxley pig when my dc were growing up Smile

june2007 · 01/06/2020 14:13

No, but all I think of is Huxley pig. "New dream everyday Huxley pig.....".

Bin85 · 01/06/2020 14:13

Alex
Xander

sawollya · 01/06/2020 14:15

@tellmesomethingreal I'd go for Rex or maybe Rocco if you like that kind of name.

Whatsyourflava · 01/06/2020 14:19

I think Huxley is a gorgeous name. It's still outside the top 300 in the charts so still pretty unusual and only around100 babies given this name a year. That is minuscule!

I'd suggest Felix but that's probably too popular for you.

How about Otto, Bodhi, Barnaby, Tristan, Chester, Cole?
All relatively rare

traveller11 · 01/06/2020 14:25

Here's what I've found on this website - www.babynamespedia.com/names/boy/xley-end

Baxley - baker ...The origin of Baxley is the Old English language ... derivative of Baxter ...
Huxley - from Hugh's meadow ... used predominantly in the English ... fairly popular as a baby name for boys ...
Oxley - ox meadow ... origin is English ... not commonly used as a baby boy name ... not listed within the top 1000 ...
Rexley - from the king's meadow ... derived from English origins ... not often used as a baby boy name ...

Personally I like Baxley. I would also consider Bexley but that's also a place.

Or there's also Baxter for just the 'x' sound

Phoebeboo · 01/06/2020 14:26

I like Huxley and have never met one!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 01/06/2020 14:45

I'm not keen and wouldn't use it if your surname begins with F. How about Dexter or Conrad?

Mucklowe · 01/06/2020 15:50

I doubt it will rise in popularity because it's a hideous sound. Like squelching something unmentionable under your boot.

howlatthetrees · 01/06/2020 15:53

I’ve not heard anyone called it
