Toby or Teddy?

So we narrowed boys names down to Toby. DH has thrown Teddy into the mix now!

Which do you prefer? Toby or Teddy?
Middle name will be Charles.

We already have a Harry & Freddie.
I was worried Teddy is a lot like Freddie??

Teddy is very very popular at the moment and since it also rhymes with Freddie I would go Toby! Very nice name.

Adelais · 31/05/2020 10:57

Toby. Teddy is super popular now.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2020 11:03

Not Freddie and Teddy, that would be silly.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/05/2020 11:04

I love the name Teddy (as a nickname for Theodore) and that would have been the name we chose if DD2 had been a boy. However, with Freddie already, it will be too similar.

babynamelover · 31/05/2020 11:23

I think Freddie and Teddy are too close.
I like Toby, Tobias is lovely for full.

OnABeachSomewhere · 31/05/2020 11:56

I prefer Toby. I know Teddy is a real name but I always think of the toy.

villainousbroodmare · 31/05/2020 11:59

Toby for sure, Teddy is a toy bear.

Swishtail · 31/05/2020 12:02

Toby but put Tobias on the BC do you have something to call him when you are angry Grin

Swishtail · 31/05/2020 12:02

so not do Blush

SnowdropFox · 31/05/2020 12:48

Toby as Teddy is pretty popular and doesn't go well with Freddie.

WisestIsShe · 31/05/2020 12:49

Toby, definitely.

MikeUniformMike · 31/05/2020 13:35

Toby

pinktaxi · 31/05/2020 13:43

Next doors dog is a Teddy, so I'm with Toby

sweetnosugar · 31/05/2020 13:48

Where I live Toby/Tobias is very popular. I actually love the name Teddy, the only one I know is a relative of mine.

Pemba · 31/05/2020 14:02

You can't have Freddie and Teddy, just sounds daft! Teddy is too popular now, but sounds quite babyish really. OK as a shortening of Theodore or Edward.

So I'd go with Toby (or Tobias on the certificate as a pp suggested).

captainraymondholt · 31/05/2020 14:03

I like them both but prefer Toby.
But you can't have a Freddie and Teddy!

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2020 14:04

Toby

Mollymalone123 · 31/05/2020 14:04

Sorry but Teddy is my dog’s name.Obviously I love it but think it’s a bit twee.Toby def

123Dancewithme · 31/05/2020 14:22

You can’t have a Freddie and a Teddy Grin

Peachbubble · 31/05/2020 14:31

Stick with Toby.

Pleasenodont · 31/05/2020 14:36

Teddy rhymes with Freddie, just sounds ridiculous!

I don’t mind Teddy as a diminutive of Edward or Theodore but hate it as a stand alone name, I’d hate to just be ‘Teddy’ on my birth certificate. It’s cute for a baby but not an adult.

I’d go with Toby (Tobias).

Standrewsschool · 31/05/2020 14:36

Teddy is very popular, plus too similar to Freddie. Also, I see it as a nn for Edward. If Freddy’s name was a Frederick, and Teddy was Edward, that wouldn’t be so bad.

On that basis, I vote Toby.

FizzyGreenWater · 31/05/2020 15:16

Freddie and Teddy?!

No, unless they happen to be hamsters.

Toby is lovely and complements Freddie really well.

daisypond · 31/05/2020 15:22

Toby

Orphlids · 31/05/2020 22:54

I’d hate to be a grown man named Teddy. Toby is marginally better.
