Having another DS...

Found out I'm having another DS. I have DS1 called Ralph.

I want to call him Ernest nn Ernie. I love this but the thought of it becoming popular puts me off.

Any other suggestions would be welcome with the similar style(I've been searching for too long lol)

I guess Ralph is getting increasingly popular (though I've never met one)- does that bother you? If it doesn't, maybe it won't bother you about Ernie either?

Midnightdream · 30/05/2020 20:42

I like Rudy and LOVE Marley but I know someone with a Marley so it rules it out.

Ralph is 7, so named him before it become popular. Hence the worry with Ernest lol.

Ooh is Ernest becoming popular? I like that name and thought it was well out of the top 100. I also like Victor, which I feel has a similar kind of vibe.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/05/2020 20:43

I love Ernie. If popularity bothers you. You take a risk with whatever you choose. You could go for the most obscure name. There's still no 100% guarantee that he w ont be one of three in his class.

More suggestions for you as well, though.

@KatnissK it was 326th in 2018. Ralph was way out back in 2012 but now its 88th Blush.

I had Stanley for my DS1 but went with Ralph. I love Percy but I've seen on here its slang for penis which has put me off completely Sad

Didn’t Ernie pull the fastest milk cart in the west?

Ralph was 193rd in 2012 though, so from 193-88 isn’t a stratospheric rise, and with Ernest starting from 326th it’s way more unusual to begin with. Why not just use Ernest? I would, and I’m a sucker for finding names outside the top 1000.

I've not heard of many ernests - go with it if you like it. It's a similar theme to Ralph and Stanley that you like

I can't see Ernest becoming so popular that it becomes a problem. Ralph being 88th can't be that much of a problem can it? Do you know millions of little Ralphs?

Go for the name you love. Don't let your desire to be different/original/unusual rule out the name you love.

Interestingly, for anyone who's read Forever by Judy Blume, Ralph is also a name for penis! You could go for Percy and have a pair?

@KatnissK @Midnightdream
No Ernest isn't getting that popular; outside the top 300 and most importantly it's actually been on a downward trajectory for the past couple of years.

Whatsyourflava · 30/05/2020 21:48

(What I mean by that is that the most recent official statistics shows the numbers of Ernest's per year is falling rather than rising)

pilates · 30/05/2020 21:52

I prefer Stanley

sweetnosugar · 30/05/2020 21:57

Love Ernest nn Ernie.
Don’t know any myself but adore the name! I wouldn’t say it was very popular! Definitely go for it.

Chocolatecake12 · 30/05/2020 22:08

I know an 18 yr old Ernest and 18 yrs ago it was a very unusual name! I’d say the same for now although older names are becoming increasingly popular.
Go for the name you love.
Incidentally I also know a 14 yr old Ralph

Edenember · 31/05/2020 00:33

Why not Stanley? It was my first thought to go with Ralph and you’ve already considered it ...

howlatthetrees · 31/05/2020 00:35

I’d go for Ernest

Midnightdream · 31/05/2020 08:11

@Edenember Stanley is in the top 100 Sad

@Chocolatecake12 I've never met anyone called Ernest. I met one Ralph when my son was around 4 in sainsburys but he was a older than my son lol.
