Hi,
I’m due imminently with my first baby. I’m Irish living with English dh in England. We have a shortlist of names but would appreciate ideas for middle names. No family names in mind.

Girls:
Maeve
Orla
Aoife
Niamh

Boys:
Evan
Tadhg
Cillian
Rory

Thank you!

Are you looking for another Irish name for the middle name or just something that flows well.

Helen8888 · 28/05/2020 12:43

Preferably English I think to balance out and represent both sides of the family.

I'm no help but wanted to say I adore your names!

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2020 16:59

I love all your names which is most unusual on here these days Like you, my DC have one Irish parent (DH) and an English one, but these days we live in Ireland.

All ours have an Irish first name, chosen so they were easy enough for my side of the family, and an English middle name. It works very well.

With Irish first names I'd go classic for a middle name (well, that's what I did, you might not want to!) and a bit longer. Something like Catherine fits with all the girls' names, and Alexander with the boys.

@Whatausername Thank you, I’m just hoping we find it easy to decide when baby arrives as I don’t really have a front runner at the moment 😬

I think Catherine goes with all your girls names and Joseph or Patrick goes with all your boys.

Helen8888 · 02/06/2020 13:58

Thank you for all your suggestions. I like James, Alexander and William for boys middle names. Like a range of girls names but wouldn’t use Catherine as it’s already taken in the family and would prefer not to use again.

What would be your top pick (combination of first and middle name) for boy and girl?

Tadhg James or Tadhg Alexander. Love Tadhg. Not keen on Evan.

Maeve Elizabeth or Niamh Elizabeth for me but I like all your girl names.

IVflytrap · 02/06/2020 19:54

My top picks would be Aoife Rosalind and Tadhg Alexander.

Second choices would be Orla Tamsin and Cillian James.
