Hi

Due our 2nd next month, pretty sorted with boys names but can't find one we love for a girl (we don't know gender). Our little boy is called Ezra so needs to go nice with that.

Don't want anything ending in y or is, don't like names that can be shortened and preferably 2 + syllables.

Also don't want anything common, was looking at biblical again but aren't any we love!

I feel like I've looked at every names but there must be more out there!!

Thanks in advance :)

Well you're not really going to get a 2 syllable name that can't be shortened.
Even Ezra can be shortened to Ez and probably will be when he's older.

I know they're all two syllables but I can't think of longer that can't be shortened! I suppose the below can be, but in my experience they rarely are.

What is the boy's name you have chosen?
I think Ezra is a gorgeous name and am interested to know what else you like.

Can you give some names that are even 'maybes' as I find tastes in girl's names can be entirely different to tastes in boy's names.
I dislike names that end in 'y' too.

If I was choosing a girl's name to 'go with' Ezra, it would possibly be Isabel or Elizabeth but both will be shortened. What about Shiloh? It is not common but not unheard of? Angelina Jolie has a daughter with the name but it is not only associated with her in the way Harper is associated with the Beckhams.

What do you think of Thalia?

EuphieKat · 28/05/2020 03:28

Hera (my kids have been watching Star Wars Rebels back to back and Ezra and Hera are two of the characters!).

As others have said, it's difficult to think of 2+ syllable names that can't be shortened. These names don't have an obvious shortening but it's highly likely they'll get shortened anyway - it tends to happen naturally even if you pick a name specifically in hopes of trying to avoid it.

Thank you for all the suggestions, some we haven't thought of so will put them forward to the husband!!

Etta is our favourite girl's name but can't decide if it's too similar to Ezra so that's why we are still looking! Also like Azelea and Mila (not sure if Mila is getting abit common now!)

We like Isaiah or Jonah (think this will get shortened to Joe which is putting me off) for a boy but also have a few more on the list, boys seem way easier for some reason!

We liked Kiki for one of our twins but we ended up with two boys.

We also liked Nella.

peperethecat · 28/05/2020 09:44

I think Ezra and Etta are too similar, sorry.

Azalea like the flower is spelt like that, with three As. I know you said you didn't want names that can be shortened but I think Zalie is a fab nickname for Azalea. One of Harry and Meghan's flower girls was called Zalie and I remember thinking it was an awesome name.

bates01 · 28/05/2020 10:05

Yeah that's my thinking, sad! Yes that's what I meant just spelt it wrong, oh yes that's beautiful never heard of that before thank you! That could be a winner. Obviously if it's a girl!
I'm thinking boy anyway but who knows!!

peperethecat · 28/05/2020 10:13

I'd never heard it before either but I think it's really pretty and at the same time kind of a cool girl name if you get what I mean? A lot of girls' names are either pretty or cool, but not both.
