Our Baby Girls Name...

Well, my boys list got many rude comments that are hurtful but I thank those who were kind and helpful.
This is our girls list, it is a lot harder for us to narrow down because neither of us can agree on one we both like.

My list:
Ivorie, Emmie, Ezmae, Maezie, Darsie, Rozie and Mollie, he hates Mollie though even though it's my fav. :(

Hubby's list:
Leighyah, Amilliyah, Addelleigh, Maeleigh and Quinleigh

I will probably have to choose one of his picks. I wish he liked Maelie or Addellie but he don't.

Those who hear the name will spell it wrong, and those who see the name written down will likely pronounce it wrong if you go for a unique spelling. I'm sure this will end up annoying your child no end after a few years of this. My name is traditional, and actually spelt in the old English (but more rarely used) way - I tend to use a shortened version day to day but on anything official it inevitably ends up spelt wrong, even if I go through the whole "it is spelt with a K not a C, and then an A rather than E after the H" routine. I've been asked at an interview if my parents couldn't spell, and a subsequent interviewer has since admitted to me that he thought I had misspelt my own name on my CV. Please give your child, who will be the owner of the name, an easy life.

What is up with the spelling?

I love Mollie but then I'm biased. I have a Molly. I wouldnt say Mollie was particularly unique though. How about Molliegh. Mind you it doesn't matter you can't use it if you both don't agree on it..
Emmie Esmae Darsie and Leighyah are sweet. I agree with PP who said Amilliyah will be pronounced as Am-ill-lia rather that Am-ee-lia.

I don't think I have ever seen or read a more ridiculous thread on here (apart from the OP's other thread with "boys" names on). Poor fucking child.. beggars belief really that the OP is serious which sadly I think she is... I am actually lost for words really..

I stand by Zur-Koniyya'a for first choice girl's name possibly with Jewel-Leigh for a middle?

Is Maeleigh pronounced May Lee or Mylee? Either way it's a bit... meh. Mae is so common she would be one of a lot of Maes her whole life. Addie and variants are also pretty popular, if you don't want a common name there are lots of lovely (correctly spelled) ones about.

My DH told me to use this test when naming our kids (which was a joint decision, not him dictating): imagine yourself shouting it down the street, how does it sound? Then imagine them as an adult introducing themselves at an interview, does it work?
That's why we don't have a moya or Titus.

Rather than Maeleigh-Jayne, I suggest it be Jayne-Maeleigh with the nickname 'Jayne-Mael' as the child will be trapped within an iron band of class expectations and ridicule for life!

I would say that Emmie is the least bad.

It's half term and the OP is a new user as from yesterday. I can't believe anyone would be really that stupid, thick and uneducated to name a child some of these ridiculous names. Social services need to get involved if that is the case (there should be a law against twats doing this to children). I am assuming this is a wind up.

Is this your first? I ask because I wonder if he has seen you give birth before. If he hasn't, I reckon that just after the birth is the perfect time to tell him to sod off with his name choices and that you will be picking! Will the baby also have his surname?

With regards to the unique spellings, I am not a fan and would personally not like to have a name spelled in a complicated way myself. But each to their own. I would just make sure that you don't also change how people pronounce it, Darsie reads more like darzy than darcy to me and rozie looks like roh- zee.

I knew a dog called Maezie (was supposed to be Maisie) because the person who had her name tag made genuinely struggled with reading and spelling. The poor dog got laughed at when people read her name tag - imagine the response to a child! I say this as someone who has a child with a very unusual name but spelt correctly - please think about the implications of very obscure spellings.

Welsh and Irish names tend to look very pretty on paper and sound lovely too - Elin, Aoife and Niamh are all beautiful names. Perhaps that could be a consideration?

@Elizabella Name isn't hyphenated. Jayne or Mae would be middle names.

Well I think I'll show my dh this and hopefully he will go for Emmie lol.

I get many of you don't like these names but why must you be so horrible. My family is excited and happy for baby and that's what is most important I don't deserve to be told my kids should be taken away.
