Our Baby Girls Name...

Well, my boys list got many rude comments that are hurtful but I thank those who were kind and helpful.
This is our girls list, it is a lot harder for us to narrow down because neither of us can agree on one we both like.

My list:
Ivorie, Emmie, Ezmae, Maezie, Darsie, Rozie and Mollie, he hates Mollie though even though it's my fav. :(

Hubby's list:
Leighyah, Amilliyah, Addelleigh, Maeleigh and Quinleigh

I will probably have to choose one of his picks. I wish he liked Maelie or Addellie but he don't.
Anyway if you have to choose which do you like the most? Xxo

How the F is 'Maeleigh' pronouced? May Lee? That's two separate names, not one.

Whatsyourflava · 27/05/2020 09:59

Emmie is a great name ❤️

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/05/2020 09:59

I know a Darcie.Looks better than Darsie

Spied · 27/05/2020 10:01

Mollie or Emmie.

HMSSophie · 27/05/2020 10:02

K8

BruceWilllis · 27/05/2020 10:04

Ivorie - utterly ridiculous. And incorrect spelling.
Emmie - I like this
Ezmae - Esme is nice. Ezmae is awful
Maezie - RIDICULOUS Maisy or Maisie
Darsie - Darcey/Darcy/Darcie fine
Rozie - honestly? Is this Roz-ie or Rosie?!
Mollie - Nice

Leighyah- It's Leah
Amilliyah - No
Addelleigh - Adelie is french, it's nice when spelled correctly.
Maeleigh - I quite like the sound but not the look
Quinleigh - No 🤦🏼‍♀️

You're setting your child up for a lifetime of people misspelling their name and bullying if you use those stupid spellings.

GinWithRosie · 27/05/2020 10:06

I feel that I MUST copy and paste my MOST EXCELLENT contribution to your boys name thread OP...which I feel is a serious contender...you probably overlooked it in error 🤷‍♀️ Understandably, given the number of posts from strange folk suggesting weird names like David and James that you had to wade through 🤦‍♀️. What is WRONG with these people?

I wanted to give you a head start on your girls name list:

L’il’ee’Rowz
L’il’ee’Mite. (Mai/Mae/May is SO done!)

As above with: R’oo’bi’, E’ll’ee, B’e’lllllll’Uh’
(and do on...apostrophes are the hyphens of tomorrow so you’ll be ahead of the curve and well cool 😎👍)

Flower names are out...as are fruit...I’m predicting...VEG HYBRIDS!

Caulito
Asparagine
Leecarrpot
Aubertato
Auberflower
Cauligine

My personal favourite, Artigette, as it sounds dead posh that...people will think your kid is proper middle class with a name like Artigette, and it will look good on her CV 👍

majesticallyawkward · 27/05/2020 10:07
  • Well, I have decided to decide between Addelleigh or Maeleigh.

Addelleigh Mae nickname Addie
or
Maeleigh Jayne nickname Mae*

Is Maeleigh pronounced May Lee or Mylee? Either way it's a bit... meh. Mae is so common she would be one of a lot of Maes her whole life. Addie and variants are also pretty popular, if you don't want a common name there are lots of lovely (correctly spelled) ones about.

My DH told me to use this test when naming our kids (which was a joint decision, not him dictating): imagine yourself shouting it down the street, how does it sound? Then imagine them as an adult introducing themselves at an interview, does it work?
That's why we don't have a moya or Titus.

peperethecat · 27/05/2020 10:08

This is clearly a troll thread, guys!

BessMarvin · 27/05/2020 10:10

You like unique spellings and call him hubby? Good luck on MN OP!

I assume this is a joke.

SebandAlice · 27/05/2020 10:12

This is a joke thread or a troll people. Don’t feed it.

Miriel · 27/05/2020 10:16

Am I the only one who thinks that inserting an extra 'gh' into a name where it doesn't belong makes it look particularly hideous when written? It's a really odd trend.

Thanks for the laugh, OP. Have you considered Kairo'nagh?

IHateCoronavirus · 27/05/2020 10:16

Op I can understand your desire to be different and to ‘help’ your child stand out but it is our character and our experiences that make us different from the people around us. Is it worth focusing on how you can facilitate this rather than by trying to do it with a spelling?

I have to admit, I was on your last thread and I was convinced it was a joke, as were many others. I would never have posted the replies I did had I thought it was a genuine thread, for that I am sorry Flowers

However, the fact that so many of us took it as a ‘joke’ should be an indication of how your child will face similar struggles. I am sure you are looking forward to the arrival of your little one and only wish the best for them. No one can argue with that. So please before you commit to anything take time to really think about the impact of a name.

As others have said Kate, K8 and KVIII all sound the same and are arguable not unique. Your child won’t even become aware of their spelling until they are 3-5 at least and certainly won’t be aware of the unique spelling until much later when their personality will be pretty much formed.

However, others will be aware of it and make judgements as sad and as cruel as that will be. What you have seen here is just a tiny snapshot of that. No one wants that for their child.

As a teacher I have had a number of unique names and spellings in my time. Experience has taught me that often these children are more likely to come in below age related expectations regarding communication skills, find it harder to adapt to boundaries and expectations and are more likely to raise safeguarding issues. Maybe it is a socioeconomic link between the outcomes of the child and choice of name rather than name itself, but the association remains and will follow your child through life.

Choose a name you love, spell it the traditional way, give your child unique experiences to make them stand out. Your child will thank you.

MsJuniper · 27/05/2020 10:17

If you like Mollie and he likes "-Leigh" spellings, would he go for "Molleigh"?

I actually like Leigh as a stand-alone name and I know an adorable Leigha.

Good luck whatever you decide.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 10:18

This is clearly a troll thread, guys!

No shit Sherrlokke.

kahronah · 27/05/2020 10:20

@Spied My favourites but can't convince hubby.

OP posts:
kahronah · 27/05/2020 10:23

@Whatsyourflava Emmie is a great name ❤️ Thankyou, it's one of my favourites but dh said no.

OP posts:
IHateCoronavirus · 27/05/2020 10:25

Op do you think if you showed DH the thread you would be able to convince him to go for Emmie?

kahronah · 27/05/2020 10:25

Yes - Maeleigh is May - Leigh

OP posts:
LittleRa · 27/05/2020 10:30

What about Harleigh? If he likes the -leigh ending

Miriel · 27/05/2020 10:33

In case this is actually real, some names with similar letters or sounds you might consider.

Emilia (nicknamed Emmie, if you can't agree on Emmie on its own?)
Emmeline
Adeliza (Addie)
Adelaide
Adelina
Adrienne
Michaela
Rachael
Phaedra
Kayleigh
Leah
Leia
Leila
Lilah

herecomesgeralt · 27/05/2020 10:34

Ivorie - don't like
Emmie - like
Ezmae - like, spelled Esme or Esmée
Maezie - don't like name or spelling
Darsie - like spelled Darcey
Rozie - like spelled Rosie
Mollie - really nice

Leighyah - dislike name and spelling
Amilliyah - if this is supposed to be Amelia, like but spell it correctly!
Addelleigh - dislike
Maeleigh - dislike
Quinleigh - dislike

Honestly, if you go with these spellings your poor daughter is going to have a lifetime of correcting people. They look awful spelled like that, spell them properly! I don't mean that in a mean way, it's what people will be thinking in real life. Better to hear it here first!

herecomesgeralt · 27/05/2020 10:37

Yes this might be a joke, as any thread may be - but there are children who are actually called names like this! Why is it definitely a joke on Mumsnet?

Huns2Getha4Eva · 27/05/2020 10:43

I ❤️ Adderleigh

Youre taste is just like mine, OP. I wish i had of thought of those names but my hubs might of said no anyway lol because he likes more trad names like Jorja. xxx

BellaVida · 27/05/2020 11:08

Enmie, Darcie and Mollie are lovely. I’m not keen of the others.

Is DH insisting on the ‘Leigh’ being incorporated as its a family name or something? Personally I would use it as a middle name with one of your favourites. If not, have you considered
Amberleigh or Amber Leigh
Annaleigh or Anna Leigh
Ashleigh
Kayleigh
