Two middle names?

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 18:06

We have decided (I think) on a name for our baby boy 💙:

Franklin Felix Charles (one syllable common surname, like Smith)

We have only been thinking of having one middle name all along - Charles, which is an important family name. However my husband LOVES the name Felix. He would love to use it as a first name, but I'm not overly keen. However I was the bigger advocate for Franklin, so I feel like I've had more input than him on the name. For that reason, I suggested Felix as an additional middle name.

Does the name flow okay? Is two middle names a bit over the top (I don't think anyone else in either family has two middle names)? This is our first baby - will they all need to have two middle names?

Thanks!

I think the name flows fine. Personally two middle names aren't to my liking but if one of your children has two, then yes, all your future children should have two as well.

I don’t like it personally- I don’t like Franklin and 3 names is a bit long and wordy but it’s up to you!
No you don’t have to give any future children 2 also!

TeddyBeans · 24/05/2020 18:11

Everyone in my family has 2 middle names, my son included! I'm not a fan of 2 names next to each other that start with the same letter but it depends what baby's surname would be. Franklin Charles Felix flows nicely too

NameChange30 · 24/05/2020 18:12

Is there a chance you'll have another baby after this one? If DH really loves Felix you should save it in case you have another boy in future.

If you do use both then I think Franklin Charles Felix "Smith" would flow better.

JasHarts · 24/05/2020 18:13

I agree with a PP Franklin Charles Felix sounds better

ReenieD · 24/05/2020 18:15

My nephews have 3 middle names each. I can’t even remember them all. It’s personal to you but nobody else remembers them once the baby name is announced. It’s sounds just fine to me. You can always save Felix incase you ever have another boy x

I prefer Franklin Charles Smith. I think it looks and sounds much nicer than Franklin Felix Charles Smith. It is very long. But is fine to have two middle names if that's what you want.

whatausername · 24/05/2020 18:24

Love the name! It's a good compromise you've made with your DH. Only consideration is whether you are likely to have any more children? But nothing's certain in this life so I say use Felix as a MN.

PeskyRooks · 24/05/2020 18:35

All my 4 have got 2 middle names. I agree with pps that Franklin Charles Felix flows better. However very few times do people actually say their full names in real life, except their wedding day I suppose. I used 2 so I could shoehorn loads of our grandparents names in as well as ones dh & I liked.

ClementineTangerine · 24/05/2020 18:38

I like it! Franklin is cool.

Agree that any future children should also have 2 middle names

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 18:45

@NameChange30 we would like to have more children, but I doubt I'll ever like Felix enough to use it as a first name tbh (I don't hate it, it's just not a favourite of mine)

I think it sounds lovely all together. Both my daughters have two middle names. We never use them, they're just there as part of their full names, and they're all meaningful to us.

I also like the order you've suggested, though can see I'm in the minority!

Neighneigh · 24/05/2020 19:18

My ds2 has two middle names and aside from very early days, no one has ever ever asked for his full name. It doesn't matter a jot, name your child however you like! As they get older they can use however many they like.

(side note, our surname begins in T so we were careful not to give him initials SHIT)

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 21:07

Thanks so much for the input everyone! I still prefer the way I've ordered the names, but that might be because I know the surname so I can hear the full effect!

Glad some of you like the name Franklin (but also secretly glad that some of you don't as I hate super popular names and really don't want him to be the next Oliver, so the fewer people that like the name the better for me 😆).

Relieved that most of you don't think anything negative about having two middle names 😊

That's a lovely name. I don't really get the point of middle names, but always wanted my kids to have one, because I was annoyed that I didn't Have one. But not sure why it bothered me. Franklyn is very different but Frankie is a very cute name for boys now so you have basically covered all the bases for a lovely name x x

DramaAlpaca · 25/05/2020 02:50

It's not to my taste at all, but it flows fine.

And yes, if you give one child two middle names do the same for all of them. I have one and my sibling has two and it's always annoyed me.

rankoutsider · 25/05/2020 02:59

My baby girl has four middle names!

Mumma4262 · 25/05/2020 06:03

I ageee with pp’s that I prefer Franklin Charles Felix, I think the “C” name breaks up the double “F” sound.

My children have 2 middle names and DC3 who I am expecting in a couple of months will also have 2 middle names.
