On the name Bonnie.

Due in 5 weeks, don't know if it's a boy or girl, but myself and DP cannot agree on a girls name. He is so against the name Bonnie, none of his family or friends seem to like it either, but I absolutely love it and can't settle on another name because I love that one so much.

So I just want to hear what peoples opinions are on the name really.

It's OK. I don't love it but it's not awful.

If your partner hates it you shouldn't try and persuade him though. There are so many other names out there.

What about Roberta or Robin nn Bobbie?
Molly/Mollie
Holly/Hollie
Polly
Poppy

All sound quite similar to Bonnie.

What is it you like about the name?

iano · 24/05/2020 12:54

I'm not a fan tbh. I don't know why but my associations with the name are all negative.

I agree don't insist on a name he hates.

Mimijo27 · 24/05/2020 12:59

No I won't insist on a name he hates, just need to find one we both like. We've agreed to stop talking about girls names until after the birth now, if it's a boy we're all sorted and if it is a girl then we can see what suits her.

I honestly don't know why I love it so much, my mum suggested it a long time ago and I didn't like it then, but I've since come to love it. That's why I wanted opinions, don't know if it's my hormones making me obsessed with the name.

Do you like any other names at all?

Pygmyseahorse · 24/05/2020 13:05

I know of 5 baby Bonnie's born this year or within the last two years, its certainly getting more love.

I'd second advice on using it as a nickname if you can't agree.
Robyn, Roberta, ebony, bryony, bronwen, siobhann...

Otherwise keep 2 options, and maybe baby will just look much more like a bonnie when she's here :)

Mimijo27 · 24/05/2020 13:08

Yes, we've got a long list going on of names we like...

Mabel
Margot
Daisy
Imogen
Violet
Alice
Hettie
Isla
Billie
Felicity
Libby
Bethany
Annabelle
Maisie

We don't both love the same ones and the ones we do agree on we think are ok, they don't make us think 'yes that's the name'

You've got some nice options there, and plenty of time to think of new ones.

Just keep reading the threads on here, add new names to your list, encourage your partner to do the same, and you can mull it over between now and when your baby is born.

sweetnosugar · 24/05/2020 13:21

Love love Mabel on your list! I’d go for that. Grin
Used to work with a girl Bonnie, she was nn Bon Bon in all honestly I wasn’t a fan.

moonset · 24/05/2020 13:26

Love Bonnie but surely you have to rule it out if DP hates it? Billie from your list is lovely and slightly similar.

Flymetothestars · 24/05/2020 13:29

Bonnie is quite nice I think

Love all these names:

Mabel
Margot
Daisy
Imogen
Violet
Alice

PenfoldsFive · 24/05/2020 13:30

My favourite from your list is Imogen, such a lovely sound.

userabcname · 24/05/2020 13:37

Not a fan of Bonnie. I like Felicity and Annabelle from your list.

emmathedilemma · 24/05/2020 13:43

Apart from Billie I like everything else on your list. I'm sorry but bonnie belongs on dogs for me!

daisypond · 24/05/2020 13:47

Not Bonnie.
From your list:
Margot, Alice, Felicity or, at a push, Imogen.
Annabel is nice if spelled that way. Hettie if short for Henrietta is nice.

MikeUniformMike · 24/05/2020 14:08

If you like Bonnie, how about Connie.

From your list, I would choose Alice, but I think you could choose Billie or Maisie.

Your list has quite different names.

MikeUniformMike · 24/05/2020 14:20

How about Molly or Polly?

LotusClover · 24/05/2020 14:21

Really dislike it, it's cutesy, childish and won't age well. I like all the other names on your list except Margot and Billie.

LondonTowers · 24/05/2020 15:43

Love Bonnie it was at the top of our list with our 2nd child but we went with something else.

I remember getting Meh responses to that name so now I refuse to discuss them apart from on here! You know what though, you will get loadsa positive responses if you actually called her that when she arrives. It's a great name x
