  1. Juliette - I like it. Good classic name.
  2. Elowen - really pretty
  3. Maddalena - I like and shortened version but think it might get mispronounced - it it lena or leena?
  4. Juniper - I like it. Different but def a nice name
  5. Evalina (evah-leena) - nice but reminds me of the hospital and if its shortened she'll be yet another Eva evie
  6. Ginevra - I right I liked it but the more I say it, the more I hear "do you never"
  7. Noellia - no, its just a bunch of sound
  8. Hestia - sounds quite harsh
  9. Hera - fine in context but not keen
10. Elar - sounds like you missed a bit
Whatsyourflava · 22/05/2020 15:18

Thea is really lovely!

How about Theodora or Dorothy if you want a slightly longer name?
Clementine nn Clemmie
Margaret nn Maggie

WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2020 15:18

Thea and Adriana are very pretty. They aren't really that widely used.

PenguinBarnotBird · 22/05/2020 15:19

Ok have rated below with 1 as the worst, 10 best

3- Noellia
7 - Juliette
9 - Evalina (evah-leena) - I’ve seen this spelt Evelina looks prettier I think
5 - Elara
1- Hestia- old lady connotations
4 - Hera - only if rhymes with Sarah ?
2- Juniper - too trendy / 2020, Think it will age badly
10- Ginevra
8 - Elowen - never seen it, beautiful sound to it
6 - Maddalena but spelt with one D

EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 15:19

@peperethecat isn't it as common as Evie though? It was my original favourite.

Davespecifico · 22/05/2020 15:20

Noellia 3 just sounds a bit silly
Juliette 9 I like it. Pretty and classic name
Evalina (evah-Leena) 3 no, boring
Elara 4 sounds like the name for a cystitis product
Hestia 2 no, sounds a bit Pompeiian
Hera 2 as above
Juniper 1 no, reminds me of folk music and tweeness.
Ginevra
Elowen
Maddalena

georgialondon · 22/05/2020 15:20

The only one I like is Juliette. 7

The rest no score!

Davespecifico · 22/05/2020 15:22

Ginevra 1
Eloquent Welsh, ok if you’re Welsh
Maddalena 7 nice but would assume she was Italian

peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:22

I don't think it's in the top 100, OP. I know three Elenas, one is a Russian, one Greek and one Spanish. Which country are you actually from?

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2020 15:27

I love Thea, only know one. Babies would have been Lilyana or Ariana, Arabella or Ariella so I feel you on the frilly name thing

SleepingStandingUp · 22/05/2020 15:27

But theyre boys

stuckindoors77 · 22/05/2020 15:28

Noellia 1 just no, reminds me of Noel Edmunds in a dress.
Juliette 7 classic name, can’t go wrong.
Evalina (evah-leena) 6 like this but she’s inevitably become yet another little Evie.
Elara 8 very pretty but would be shortened to Ellie, do you like that too?
Hestia 4 I like Hesta or Hester better.
Hera: 2 just dislike this, very square and clunky sounding.
Juniper 10 love this, pretty and unusual.
Ginevra 3 this is nice, just not my taste.
Elowen. 9 very pretty
Maddalena 5 I like the name and love Maddy, but that spelling looks clunky.

CoronaIsComing · 22/05/2020 15:28

Noellia 1
Juliette 6
Evalina (evah-leena) 10
Elara 5
Hestia 2
Hera 4
Juniper 9
Ginevra 3
Elowen 8
Maddalena 7

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 22/05/2020 15:29
  1. Noellia: Sounds created.
  2. Juliette: It’s alright.
  3. Evalina (evah-leena): Don’t like it.
  4. Elara: Don’t like it.
  5. Hestia:- Too old woman.
  6. Hera: Too Greek for MY taste.
  7. Juniper: It’s ok.
  8. Ginevra: Ginny Weasley’s real name. Love it!
  9. Elowen: Beautiful.
  10. Madalena: I really don’t like this.
Defenestratethecat · 22/05/2020 15:37

Noellia 1 sounds twee made up
Elara 1 as above
Elowen 4 nothing wrong - prefer Helen
Juliette 4 prefer Juliet
Magdalena 4 a bit 'try hard'
Ginevra 7 like it except for the gin conotation - might lead to teasing 'was your mother on the gin' etc
Juniper 7 like it but again open to teasing
Evalina 7 but Evelyn is better
Hera 8 really like
Hestia 9 - sounds strong, intelligent, uncommon but not yoonique (also love Hester)

Joffrey · 22/05/2020 15:40

Noellia - 1 - sound made up, Noelle is better, or at a push Noella.
Juliette - 6 - but spelt Juliet
Evalina (evah-leena) - 5- spell it Evelina, it is a children's hospital though
Elara - 5 - feel neutral about this
Hestia - 2 - sounds made up, Hester instead?
Hera - 1 - no, they'll be called Hero
Juniper - 5- not my taste but feel neutral, might date
Ginevra - 2- Minerva is marginally better.
Elowen - 6 - pretty, are you Cornish?
Maddalena - 2 -people will spell it wrong, they'll spell it with a 'g'.

SE13Mummy · 22/05/2020 15:41

Madalena is lovely and if you have connections to Cornwall, Elowen is too. I like Juliet but feel the extra letters make it feel 'frilly'. Juniper feels like it's going to become increasingly popular which obviously isn't an issue if you like popular names. The Evelina hospital is what I think of when I hear Evalina.

You mentioned Elena, I think that's gorgeous - I always thought I'd have an Elinor but DH and I have different ideas about abbreviations so we didn't choose that for either DD.

Don't be put off a name by how often it appears on Mumsnet! If you want to avoid names that are in the top 50 nationally, look them up on the ONS lists. DD1's name was well outside the top 50 when she was born in late 2004 but has started to become more popular and is now something like 45. DD2's isn't even in the top 100. Felicity, Martha and Dorothy which are often mentioned on here are interesting to look at on there; two are right down at 99/100 and Dorothy hasn't featured since the mid 1950s.

Flappingflamingo · 22/05/2020 15:56

Juliet is the only nice name sorry

merryhouse · 22/05/2020 16:04

Noellia - mouthful. 1
Juliette - prefer Juliet. 6
Evalina (evah-leena) - 4
Elara - 2
Hestia - never been keen. 3
Hera - the goddess of women marriage family and childbirth, who is jealous and vengeful. Not a great choice. 0
Juniper - unusual (probably less so nowadays) but pretty. 7
Ginevra - Juniper is better. Or Jennifer. Everyone will think you're Molly Weasley. 2
Elowen - I like this. Apparently Cornish for elm. 6
Maddalena - over-flowery, unless you are Italian. 5

123Dancewithme · 22/05/2020 16:10

I like Noelia spelled this way, it’s the Spanish form of Noelle.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 22/05/2020 16:24

1)Elowen, very sweet
2) Madalena is nice - but not keen on the double d spelling you've used
3) Juniper (a bit out there for me, but sweet nonetheless .)

The rest are all lumped together in the middle. Don't like any of them much.

Except:

  1. Hestia (absolutely vile. Can't even begin to say how much I hate it...)
EveryoneLoves09876 · 22/05/2020 16:33

@merryhouse you'll never guess my real name 😂

Sewingbea · 22/05/2020 17:29

I think that you are remarkably good humoured about people not liking your names OP. I am now stuck with the image of Noel Edmonds in a dress after the comment a PP wrote about Noellia!
You really can't predict how names will grow in popularity; DD 1 is mid teens and her name was below the top 250 when we named her. We didn't choose her name because it was unusual though, we picked it because we thought it would be a dignified name for all of her life. We just loved her name and still do. It's now gone up to the top 70 but that's ok because we still love the name as we love her. DD 2 has a virtue name and that is still unusual but again we picked it because it is dignified and had a sweet nick name for when she was young. Would be too much of a granny name for you thoughGrin
