What do you think of Parisa? It is a Persian name meaning Fairy-like, and fits our background. It is quite a well known name in our culture but I wonder how it will be perceived by others? It is pronounced Paree- Sah. What are your initial thoughts when you see this name? Pretty or absolutely awful? Honest opinions please!

Never heard it before but I like it. It's pretty.

Devlesko · 21/05/2020 16:55

It's beautiful.
I'd use it, and in keeping with your culture.

BlackKittyKat · 21/05/2020 16:56

Love it. Really pretty name.
I would probably pronounce it Pa Riss Ahh though, if I was reading the name for the first time.

Thank you! Glad to see positive reactions! 👍🏼

I think it's pretty. Don't worry if people don't know how to pronounce it, just tell them. They'll soon get it right. I know a little girl named Parimah and it suits her perfectly.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 21/05/2020 17:22

Sounds very pretty.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/05/2020 17:26

Oh, now I have ‘like a fairy’ to the tune of ‘like a virgin’ going around in my head. Gah.

Lovely name. People won’t get the ‘eee’ pronunciation here but both ways are pretty.

But she will be Parisa-joon...

Orphlids · 21/05/2020 17:30

I think it’s absolutely beautiful!

AcrobaticCardigan · 21/05/2020 17:40

I love it. It’s beautiful.

Screenburn · 21/05/2020 17:45

Beautiful! But then I love almost all Persian names Smile

elfran · 21/05/2020 17:55

Just beautiful! I'd have pronounced it the way you say, but yes in the UK you're likely to get Par-iss-a sometimes. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

I actually think the fact that it's somewhat unheard of here might help with pronunciation - with a "new" name people will only need to be told once, and they'll get it. Compared to something like Helena for example, which is well-known and has several legitimate pronunciations, so often people will just stick with the one they know, despite being told otherwise.

MarieQueenofScots · 21/05/2020 17:56

Lovely. I would have assumed pronunciation as you said so not a given you’ll have difficulties!

Lordfrontpaw · 21/05/2020 18:00

I know the name - but I think there’s something ‘familiar’ about it, maybe it sounds like something else (I keep thinking Vanessa paradis) and I think a fair number of people will think they’ve heard it before.

If that makes sense!

daisypond · 21/05/2020 18:34

It’s very nice

Ellmau · 21/05/2020 18:52

It's really nice, I went to school with a Parisa. Always thought it was pronounced Parrissah (if that makes sense?). It's really lovely though!

Leila2020 · 21/05/2020 19:36

Thank you so much! I’m so happy to see such a positive response to the name Parisa! 😀 Makes me feel a lot more confident about the name.

What sort of middle names would you pair with it?

OP posts:
Raera · 21/05/2020 19:41

One syllable beginning with a consonant as a middle, but depends upon you surname.
Is your surname typically English or other?

DariaMorgendorffer · 21/05/2020 19:43

Beautiful name!

sakura06 · 21/05/2020 20:04

It's lovely!

Leila2020 · 21/05/2020 21:04

Surname is Arab/ Persian sounding with two syllables, im struggling to find a name with one syllable as a middle name. Noor is a bit over the top with Parisa, I want the middle name to be quite international.

I LOVE Noor.
