My sister is expecting a baby and has a few names on her shortlist but Eva is at the top.

She is hoping for some feedback please before she decides for certain.

It's a lovely name but sadly it won't stand out much as it will get lost in the swarm of Evie's and Ava's. Eve is a lot less popular, but it will still blend into the crowd. It's a shame because all these names are beautiful but their immense popularity is kind of taking away their shine.

Oh, I do love the name Eva. I went to see An Inspector Calls as a child, and as a result, the name Eva, for me, is always dark and mysterious and rather wonderfully tragic. Unfortunately, I am put off by the popularity these days, both of Eva, and as a PP said, the other multitude of similar names.

My name is Eva. I’m 53 and growing up in the UK it was pretty unusual. I’m a teacher and now do double takes as the name is making its way into Secondary Schools. I love it, strong, simple and less fey than Eve/Evie/Ava. Still it is getting more popular.

It's ok. We are overrun with them (and Ava/Evie etc) in my school so whenever I meet another one I always think "there was really nothing else?".

It's fine like but just completely blends in.

If you look at the official statistics Evie has actually been on a downward trajectory year on year, every year, since 2010 so there's far fewer now than there was 10 years ago. I was wondering why I didn't know any Evie's under 4 years old and now I understand why.

Beautiful name but very, very common now. It’s the sort of name you don’t even register now as it’s just so overused, like Amelia.

So it seems most people like the name but it’s just too popular/similar to other popular names.

I prefer Eve although Eva is lovely but as others have said gets a bit lost in the similar sounding names, however it is much ‘stronger sounding’ And more sophisticated than the others i feel. Nice on all ages and I’ve only ever met one x

I know so many babies called Evie, Eva, Ava it's easier in private to just refer to them as EvieEvaAva in one breath and in public as 'poppet' as it's so confusing to remember who is actually who.
